Indefinite Leave to Remain - the latest
« on: 10 October 2008, 10:12:30 »

Well now I am really p!ssed off!

It would appear that even though we got my wife's marriage visa just as her Airline visa was due to run out, it wasn't stamped by Heathrow Passport Control (and therefore validated) until 5 months after the fact.  Even though she was coming in and out of the country almost weekly with work.

So she has not been here for 2 years on a marriage visa and thus does not qualify for ILR yet!!!  We have been told to get another marriage visa and apply later, oh and it costs £600!!!  (not to mention the £1000 the ILR will cost)

I dont understand it. the wife is:

-Amercian
-Paying UK taxes and NI
-Abides by all UK laws
-Helps with a few community projects when she isnt working
-Does not claim any benifits
-is married to an Army Officer

Yet if she had come into the UK via the back of a lorry and claimed asylum she would be given a house, car and a wad of cash to sit on her arse!

UK PLC robbin @rsehole f#ckers......  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Change her nationality to Afgan then you'll get a 7 bed home in London for £12,000 a month.

well GAFFER youve summed it up pretty well, you made the mistake of doing everything legally, then having to rely on the competence of official departments which of coarse is fatal!, then to top it off you have to pay financially for their ineptness [i think thats a word!], this country has & always will look after all the wrong people due to the "do-gooders" that have infiltrated various departments, so fighting for your country stands for nothing???,,,its pure lunacy,,,,good luck anyway you desreve it.

We have another recourse for action which does not invlove the UKBA or its lunacy...

I will report on it and how to do it once I am sucessful.  :y

........and no!  Fighting/serving for your country (im a medic, its rare that we actually fight) does not give you any special consideration, concession oh and if your marriage visa runs out while you're on Operations in Iraq or Afghan your wife runs the risk of being deported!

There was this story in the news a couple of weeks ago about this guy form one of the commonwealth nations who served in the British Army, but later failed to qualify for ILR because he was not in the UK for 4 years. As it turned-out, he was stationed in Germany with the army so was not technically in the UK... I don't remember the exact details but it was some sort of lunacy anyway.

On a more general note, this country can at time be at times a haven for outlaws and a nightmare for law-abiding citizens...  :(

You and your mates have the weapons - the bureaucrats don't

The British public support you.

Depose them and force an election!

I love my country and I am proud to serve but I defo serve the Queen, not the government.  I am seriously considering why I am continuing to do this job for a cabinet that has no idea on what is going on in this country.

I am a REMF and an Officer to boot so I am not exactly putting my life on the line but I and many others make sacrifices in our personal lives to do the impossible and make happen with 80 men what we used to struggle to do with 100.  All because we are not given the resources by the government to do what is necessary.  Help for Heros has raised the £8m required for a new pool for the rehab center in Headley Court where our soldiers go when they have their arms and legs blown off.

The government couldent pay for this yet they can bail out fat cat bank managers with huge sums of money in an instant.   :o

All I and the soldiers I serve with ask is that for the hard work we put in we get something out.  At the moment we get to spend 6 months out of every 24 in Iraq or Afghan.  Yeah an operational bonus is nice, it pays for one holiday at todays rates.  But why cant we give military personnel preferential treatment when it comes to social agendas?  I am just flabberghasted with the way my wife and I have been treated through this ordeal and feel rather unappreciated by the government.

If there are any foreign military commanders out there, who wants a British army occifer?

I agree with you entirely Gaffers -- but the highlighted sentence applies universally in this beleaguered country .... we can't afford decent roads, decent school equipment, cutting edge medical treatments, clean hospitals --- evrything basic to our needs is under resourced -- yet, suddenly, they conjure an osbscene amount to bail out totally undeserving and basically waste of skin bankers (does start with a "B", doesn't it ?? )

the CEO of barclays is an ex Army Officer.............. he gave a talk at Sandhurst when I was there I was soooo tempted to call him a nonce and a waster for how his company treats the military but I refrained due to the inevitable retributions from the staff.....

An utter disgrace. >:(
I watched a police programme two weeks ago on BBC or ITV and there was three incidents in the course of the 1 hour programme where they showed illegal immigrants being arrested. One had lived illegally in UK for 10 years caught driving a van with no insurance or UK driving license he was proscecuted but at the end of the programme it was stated that Immigration authorities  refused to give any info on what happened him  :o,two were walking along the side of a motorway and were arrested but ultimatly released and instructed to go to the immigration centres in either Liverpool or Croydon and were never heard of again ::) .The last was Polish ,drunk no insurance or UK license and was caught doing 112 mph. He laughed at the police and then didn't appear at the court presumably went back to Poland.
My wife was back in London at her her family home last week and said it's a jungle now.......
I wish you good luck Sir...
I look back 25 years and it breaks my heart to see what has happened to the UK.
