« on: 13 October 2008, 16:17:52 »

I need some tyres not sure what to get

Currently have Michelin Primacys at around 150 each

Want something well wearing and grippy around the 80 to 100 mark.

Any ideas please?

I just bought a full set of Toyo Proxys on blackcircles.com  £77.75 a corner if you use a discount code. Not done much mileage on them yet but feel great so far.  :y

I was paying about 125 - I forgot

but that is 200 saving on a set!

I'll try a pricematch at a local place

I recently had fitted Martin a full set of Avon (a brand I have used in the past on Carlton's, a Senator and Omega) ZZ3's at £396 all in.

Already I have noticed much improved road holding, at speed around corners in the wet, when with the previous budget tyres the rear end did start to wonder and had to be corrected.  Road noise is very quiet and overall I am very happy with them giving me the performance I always enjoyed with Avon's :y :y

I have the same as Lizzie 's tyres on my GLS, no problems or issues with them.

Conti SportContact 2's are very good in my opinion, except they do wear quicker than others with them being such a soft compound, but the grip I can not fault.

Currently got Pirelli P6000's on the front though, there not bad, quite quiet!  Do last longer than the conti's, but till have Conti's on the rear for the grip though, and the fact the rear doesn't seem to wear as much as the fronts, even when the geometry is spot on!

Severe skintness had me very close to swapping the miggy for an old Pug 306 diesel the other day.

I recovered my senses - but the choice of 4 new tyres (and cat back exhaust) was forced upon me. MOT is due in 10 days so the cheapest option is required.

So, I bite the bullet and on go 4 Runways, fitted for £216.

They're not great grip wise and yet to be tested in the wet. They are surprisingly quiet. And the miggy still handles better than a 306 diesel  :y

I'd say stick with the mich, my MV6 runs 235's pilot prems and have been the mutts for the last four sets ive had, and they average 30k a set. Good in the wet and un-shiftable in the dry.

Never wanted for another tyre, and the pilot prems where designed for big saloon cars an particular. :y

Hope this helps.....

Had ZZ3s on the tractor for a while, thought they were awful. got 4k from them, and, tbh, glad to get rid of them.  Saying that, the budget Nexen CP641 have only managed 6k, probably only 2k left....

My Nexens have been fine, but then you can see how I drive in my other post.  ::)

I find Conti's go hard and are pants in the wet.  OTOH, Nexens are never great wet or dry.

A touch of 4 wheel steer? Or have you been lubricating the tarmac again?  ;)
