DO get an accountant - they will probably save you money, but best of all, they will remind you of what you have to do if they are any good, and send you nagging letters/emails telling you when you have to do it.

DON'T go for one of these fixed-price, pay monthly deals that you may see on Contractors sites - you won't get good service and you'll end up nagging them.

Get someone local, try for a small firm with a couple of (middle-aged) partners rather than some nationwide group who will assign trainees to your stuff because you aren't a multinational corporation.  Best of all, they will probably be on first-name terms with the local tax inspector, and that can save you a waggon-load of grief!

 couldn't disagree with you stronger.......

I have fixed menu pricing and pay monthly by DD, they have saved me year on year at least twice what i pay them (last year was £1250)

Me or my wife call them up and ask away, or Email as well, they are quick, on the ball and spell it out in a very simple fashion that i understand and can implement......

I must have gone to nearly all the accountants in Plymouth before choosing mine, they were the ones i felt the most comfortable with and didn't look down on me like i was some sort of inconvenience to them.
Mine is a local firm, i am assigned a contact for all my PAYE, VAT and corporation tax and they have an assistant who i speak to as well, if they are on holiday i get an alternative contact who knows me and my business.

sometimes cheapest is not the best, you have to go with who YOU want to be dealing with and who YOU want to be supporting you and YOUR business.....

Good luck
