Well it has to have a plug compatible with your lappy, be able to select the voltage you need and provide enough amperage to run your lappy.
Voltage and current is usually marked on your AC adapter.
Which just leaves the question of wether they supply a plug that will fit.

The one you found isn't powerful enough to run my lappy for instance but as they say your mileage may vary.

Think this is the same as mine.

The other thing you could do it get a little mains inverter and use the power supply that came with the laptop. Got a nice little one from Maplins recently for 20 quid. 150 watt IIRC.

That'll do the job. Mine is the 150W one, which is now 40 quid. :-?

You won't get anywhere near 300 watts out of a cigar lighter socket before the fuse blows, of course, but for powering a laptop it'll be more than adequate.

No difference as the adaptor wil have a DC-DC converter.....and the inverter has a DC-AC converter.
