14 years of sentence in any prison ..... not easy as it seems..

even hours wont pass easy, let the days.. I know many prisoners personally as from fathers and mothers job..

they regret mllion times..

but the fact stays there,  precautions must be taken before, too late after the boy died..

The actual act was no more than common assault for which a lighter sentence is appropriate. Sadly the outcome resulted in a loss of life intended or not.
    Jimmy now has no future & his family have a lifetime of heartache. I do take your point & admire you for putting it out there but the song remains the same.

Yes - he should have been punished for his earlier acts - this may have stopped Jimmy's death, by re-educating the thug
 However, Impartially,  all he did was throw a dish at a kid that he believe had  'dissed him', the chance of that throw killing him is slight, in this case it did kill him.
we need to weed out these 'people' and deal with them before they lose control like this, instead of when they lose it

I think this was the argument put forward by his defence,they showed a picture of the dish on the news tonight,it looked like one of those really thick square pyrex dishes,it had broken into lots of pieces but was pieced back to gether for evidence.My point is if you hit someone in the face with one of those hard enough to smash it in their face and cut an artery or the jugular you will know you are going to cause a lot of damage and risk life and limb.
I dont believe in capital punishment,but agree with amigov6 that he (and other people with life sentences) should spent the rest of their days in prison,and preferably not one which is like a half decent hotel.

I take on board the comments regarding taxpayers keeping such dirt incarcerated & yes it's not cheap, but if i'd committed such a heinous crime & been caught i'd consider death a merciful release.
    Ideally a natural life sentence of hard labour & abuse & hatred from other inmates is worth paying a little more tax for.
    Plus keep him on suicide watch so he can't take the cowards way out. Keep him barely alive terrified, tired, cold & hungry for another 50 or 60 years knowing he'll die that way with no hope of anything else ever. If we started passing sentences like that it would be a deterrent in itself, saving lives & money in the long run.

Well he didnt pick it up too tickle the lad did he.....he fully intended too hurt him.

Some people are just beyond help and its my opion this thug was and is.

Even the police officer in report on BBC  website called the offender a "yob". Prison should be like the portrayed in Midnight Express not bloody HI DI HI holiday camp, but that would be breaking thier human rights ,sorry but you break the law  and you have no rights compared to the normal person on the street, that means no playstations and the like ,The liberal pc yoghurt knitters of this country have a lot to answer for .

did anyone see the documentary on Hollaway womens prison a few nights ago?couldnt believe it,I,ve stayed in worse hotels,even the prisoners said the only bad thing about it was being seperated from feriends/family.

Disgusting to be honest........ this country has lost the plot with regards to the justice system and for this guy to get 14yrs for taking a life is disgusting and degrading to the family of Jimmy to say the least.

I'm 39 now but when we were young the most we did was play knock down ginger or kick a football against the garages. Knives,guns,hoodies,etc etc were unheard of and i now wonder what the lifes of my two kids aged 9 and 7 will be like in a few years time which worries me to bits.

Your right Andy society as changed sadly for the worse i'm 65 & yes there were murders when I was young & crime but not like to days crime I too feel for the normal honest young people growing up these days I have grandkids & worry for them as they are good kids play in school band help at school fete, etc

The 19year old who killed ............16 year old Jimmy .....certainly deserves to go to prison for a long time.
He is clearly not a pleasant or well rounded individual......and a long custodial sentence......is in order.

BUT....I have to say that I think that the charge should be that of Manslaughter.....I don't think that that his intention when he threw the glass ashtray/bowl at Jimmy was to kill him.

As far as I 'am aware a murder conviction requires "malice aforethought".........in other words.................".absolute knowledge that his actions will cause the death of another person"

In summary....................I'am glad that Jimmy Mizen's killer is off the streets for a long time..................but I do not think that it was his intention to kill Jimmy. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

I'am glad the 19 year old has gone to prison for 14 years but it's not long enough he should be in for life and I meen life till the end of his days.
That poor 16 year old will never get his life back so why should his killer......maybe the 19 year old did not intend to kill him..... but because of his actions the poor boy died  so he's totally responsible.  When he's released.... what's to say he won't hurt or kill someone again.....so just leave him in prison and help to make our country little safer it be 1 less to worry about.

In cases like this where there is zero doubt who committed the crime there should be the death penalty....he serves no useful purpose nor chances are he ever will.

I don't recognize "manslaughter" in this case. If you're having a one on one fistfight & get a lucky (or unlucky) punch in which results in a death, that is manslaughter, in laymans terms " i wanted to give the bloke a good hiding but never intended to kill him" When a 19 year old man chases a 16 year old boy & attacks him with said weapon that is intent simple as, no ifs or buts.
