Freedom to Express Opionions on OOF
« on: 15 April 2009, 14:55:20 »

Once again somebody expresses an opinion on the OOF, in this case me on the subject of "Facebook", and you end up being insulted, as we have seen recently in other threads!!

Is no one aloud to express opinions nowadays??  Is this the type of society we have now??  ::) ::) ::)

I believe in free speech, with the freedom to express opinions, but without resorting to insult.

It just feels at the moment that placing anything on the OOF, including trying to give members assistance, is like walking on eggshells ready for the next obscenity or insult!!  :( :( :(

This, as I have stated before, is spoiling the enjoyment of this site and gives me reason to think is it worth it??!!  ::) ::) ::)

I echo Ljay's words used in conection with the "Met. Caught out" thread when she's says so rightly:

"Seems to me this is not a nice place to be no more!"

Hope you do not mind me quoting your words Ljay, but it is sadly very true at the moment! :( :( :( :(

I took a break from the site for about a year due to work commitments and pesonal problems but i for one will stick my neck out and say it is great to be back on here and think it is a NICE place to be, my opionion of course but i'm positive others will think otherwise, all i can say is if those peeps are not happy on here there are options available. However i also think life is far to short to fall out with one another, so just bloody enjoy it we may not be lucky enough to enjoy it tomorrow.  :-/

Absolutely right, we all have that option. :y :y

Wouldn't it be nice though to have a site that is a true community, away from the outside "real" world were we all can share our love for the Omega, cars generally, and anything else we wish to discuss in an adult way without rudeness, bickering and insult just for once?? ::) ::)

I am on this site for one reason only, to keep my Omega on the road, although I can do it without the OOF like I have maintained all my previous cars without aid from the internet.

However, I do much enjoy usually the feeling of 'belonging' and the social contact with other members which produces at times great humour.  We all need a good laugh and relaxation, what we do not want (and yes I know us women are different from the majority male membership!) is people insulting each other over having different views, including the extreme of some telling others to "f... off"!! :o :o  That just produces stress and aggravation which most of us have to deal with in the "real" world. :-X :-X

You are right life is too short to put up with that. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Quiet. Except for Hillsborough being on the telly every five minutes. Wish they would let it rest. Hope we dont have a 25th, 30th etc. It's all been said and I find it upsetting.

Just my opinion, so don't shoot me down... but it seems that whenever there is a "disagreement" within a thread - it spawns another thread questioning the morals of OOF!?

I briefly read the thread and do agree that LZ was subject to some harsh comments but I do not see how drawing more attention helps matters - would a firm PM not suffice?

If someone was "offensive" towards me in the street I would walk away and leave them to it - this doesn't affect my freedom of speech in any way. Does the same not apply to a forum?
