On Omegas, its fair to say the speedos tend to read 1-2mph over, across entire range.

Mine reads 90 mph when I'm doing a true 88 ........  :'(  :'(  :'(  :'(

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

At least you've got a sense of humour over it ;) ;) ;)

I find the most ironical thing about it is the fact that the first/last 3 points I received expired 2 days before I got these!  :y

I had a clean license for 2 days!!!  :-?  :y  :y

Errm... Sorry officer, I was testing the accuracy of my speedo! ::) ::) ;D ;D

I wouldn't have minded the bollocking/ticketing from a face to face with a proper copper. This one was sat in a Transit at the side of an empty M180 with something about a safety camera on the side of it.  :-X

I know what you mean... There's a stretch of Dual Carriageway I drive along all the time which is a 40. Last week the van was in it's normal spot on my way out, 20 minutes later when I came back the tinker had changed sides >:( >:( >:(

Just hoping I was OK as I normally stick to the limit on that stretch but can easily get carried away! :-[ :-[ :-[

50 MPH roadworks, with cameras on the A1M near Darlington, I just set the speed limiter at 52, still get loads flying past, often wonder if they get a ticket. ::)

I had a trip to Nuneaton today & as i drove down the M1 through the road works with the average speed cameras, i had a thought.
If you was to drive at say 55mph or 60mph for the whole duration of the road works & so passing every speed camera. Would you just get the one ticket or would you lose your licence?
Any ideas?
Assuming the temp limit was set at 50mph.....

You are allowed 10% + 2...which means you can go through at a true 57mph without fear.
It's a written guarantee (as guaranteed as death and taxes) that your speedo over-reads anyway, so if your speedo says your doing 50...it's odds on you are only hitting a true 48 at best.

Borrow a sat nav and cross check your speedo, the sat nav will be a darn site more accurate than your speedo will ever be.
Each force or Safety Partnership is free to set their own limits, and they do vary. Some are doing zero tolerance (M4 from Swindon to near M32 being an infamous part).

As to satnav, most satnavs are desperately inaccurate due to the way the maps are built.

On Omegas, its fair to say the speedos tend to read 1-2mph over, across entire range.

Oh yes.....be aware, around ALL of Swindon area its 10% max.
And I know of peeps that have got tickets for 34mph in a 30mph zone.

Going back to the original question, i believe you will get a ticket per camera if they are non average speed camera's so yes potentially you could loose your license, however if they are average speed camera's, then you would just get the one ticket.

Tho 55mph, if the limit was 50mph you should be safe (based on the 10% tolerance and over reading of your speedo) 60mph and it could be ticket time!!

I drive a lorry as some of you may know, i alwayd travel according to my sat navs.
The speedo on my lorry and car are both out.
I am lead to beleive that everytime you go through every second average speed camera the speed is tested again, so in theory, it could be a ticket for every other camera, but you could argue that overall your speed stayed at a constant.
My friend makes speed cameras, and the rule is usually 10% of the speed on that road is tolerable.  :y

Mapping (or positioning if you prefer) doesn't come in to it when it is recording your speed. For an accurate positioning fix you need at least 4 satellites, and this can (as you say) be innaccurate, especially over short distances.

Speed measurement is calculated by the phase differences between the satelite signals which are much easier to measure accurately (accuracy to less than 1mph).

All speedo's over-read, and they will over-read even more once a bit of tyre wear, etc comes in to play.

I haven't had a chance to test the Omega yet (I might do that today even), but on our old car, the speedo was anywhere between +3 to +8 of the true speed

Ok, went down to Pompey today to get my air-con regassed, so I took the oppertunity to cross reference my speedo with GPS.

The figures in blue were my indicated speed, while the figures in red are what the GPS reported.

30 - 28
40 - 38
50 - 48
60 - 58
70 - 68
80 - 77
90 - 87
100 - 96

The speedo obviously starts to get a bit enthusiastic after 70mph, but for the speeds I actually do on a day to day basis, it's pretty damn accurate.

The average speed assessed in an average speed zone would be from the point of origin (first camera to record offence) to the point of exit (whatever camera applicable) ;) So this would result in one ticket, I would imagine :y

I was clocked speeding in a 30 zone at 35mph,and was given the option of taking the points or going on a speed awareness course at the same cost as a speeding fine,it was a good few hours well spent,no one giving you a hard time, just common sense stuff about the effects of speeding, one interesting fact was that out of the 46 fixed speed cameras in the Northumbria police area(scottish borders down to county Durham and across to Cumbria-a huge area when you think about it ) was that at any one time only 12 speed cameras are active! so you just got to be careful when you're out and about!
