Funnily enough, I was in your patch when I had it. Used to live in Elmstead Market.

I do wonder what they'd be like to drive today, in comparison to my current cars. As long as I could dump it by the side of the road and walk home when I'd had enough. I wonder how far I'd get?

Yep. Hence the annual job of changing the front lower trunnions.

Another BL "management says we've got to use x,y&z from the parts bin" design.

Now Escorts of the era (ie MkII) weren't too bad, and much better than the shite BL were churning out at the time (before they got in to bed with Honda)

Common around our way as well ;D

Also, we used to have races, but only allowed to use 1st and 2nd gear.  Strangely, I only ever wrecked one engine, and that was not my fault (they gave me a temporary Ital when mine was in for repair, but had a damaged engine mount).  Engine dropped at about 80mph.  That was one of those 'oh dear' moments as well...

LOL, I was reminded of this incident yesterday.  Every time I drive past the layby where I managed to stop it, I always have a look at the oil slick, and a little chuckle to myself of the 'fond memories' (Not!) of the incident.

However, this time when I drove past, it looks like the oil slick is barely noticible now. I'm surprised how long it has taken :o

Do you still have the same memories of the tractor in general?

How about fitting a sumpguard?

I don't suppose anyone ever rallied an Omega but I bet someone has made a sumpguard. I might be interested in one if anyone has ever seen one!

I suspect in this case, the key is probably not to launch the car  :-[
