Thanks for everyone's input which has been MOST useful.

Indeed on the basis of your advice I have pushed up the insurance company's offer now to £1,650, which they have accepted.

Although I have the hassle of now searching for a replacement Omega (oh yes, I am not leaving the fold of big engined Vauxhalls after all these years!!), I feel that after looking at what's available on Auto Trader and elsewhere, £1,650 is a good fair figure.  After all I really only paid £2,000 for her 18 months ago!

Time to move on ( I have got better things to do than have hassle over an old car!), hand back the lovely 'E' Class Merc 320 CDI (if you can ever afford to, I recommend strongly buying one!!  :-* :-* :-* :-*:y :y :y :y :y :y) and get hopefully a nice Mig, aiming for a 3.2 Elite if possible :D :D :D :D ;)

And budget for a gearbox re-build every 60K miles....plus all the other faults  ;D ;D ;D

I am not surprised given the tremendous acceleration from 0-100 that is possible (I achieved that, at most, in under 5 seconds, and trying hard not to spin the rear wheels!!) :-* :-* :-*  And this is a diesel, which you would never suspect once driving!! :o :o :o 8-) 8-) 8-)

Just a beautiful car though; everything seems automatic.  Lights; wipers; central locking 1 minute after moving off; parking sensors rear, front, and sides of wings; main lights on when unlocking car in dark places; folding door mirrors, and goodness knows what else I haven't yet discovered!! :D :D :D  8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-);) ;)
Sorry Lizzie but that is simply not possible.must have been using one old DLK,s Timex,s as a stopwatch. ;) :D ;D
Bugatti Veyron does 0-99.4mph in 5.5 seconds. ::)
Diesel power mag. online say it does 0-60 mph in 6.6 secs. :y

Alright Albs, I must admit to perhaps getting carried away a bit! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

However, believe me when I say 0-100 I achieved in certainly 7 seconds at most :o :o 8-) 8-)   The "push" in the small of the back when accelarating is the best I have experienced in recent years , and is most certainly VERY fast from 0-100 (on a motorway from stationery on the hard shoulder with a clear road).  I am afraid to say that although I love Omega's and will definitely be buying another, they are very slow in acceleration compared to the Merc's performance! :o :o

For those, including me, that thinks the V6 Omega's engine compartment is full and tight, you may be interested to see the E320's engine area:

This afternoon I have had a heated conversation with my insurance company over when they can get the £1,650 to me.

They have explained they can only send a cheque as they do not have my bank details as I pay my premium via the AA, and their system cannot accept the details now to wire the money into my bank!!  They then explained the cheque would not be sent until the end of this week, and when I reminded them of the forthcoming postal strike, they stated there was "nothing they could do"!!!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) >:( >:( >:(

I was fuming, as by the time I get the cheque and cleared it through my account it will be nearer two weeks time >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Anyway, I am going to have to put up with the Merc for at least two more weeks, as I can have it for up to 7 days from the time I receive the cheque :P :P :P :P :P .......and the insurance company who covers the idiot who ran into me will have to take the extra costs..........shame!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y :y

So do I Cem! 8-) 8-) 8-)  How often do we get the chance to have a situation where one insurance company's inefficiency costs another insurance money, and the customer enjoys the benefits in the meantime! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Because of the way my insurance company is so inflexiable and basicly says "stuff the customer, we will do things our way only to help us, not them!!"

I will have had the Merc for four weeks + in the end, but that is because my insurance through the AA allows for it when I am not the guilty party.  Nothing to do with my insurance company. ;) ;) ;)

Isn't that what insurance companies do best? ::)  ::)
'Our' insurance company have up'd their offer today from £2500 to £2900 which we thought was quite acceptable.

The girl I spoke to yesterday seemed to think the money was coming out of her own pocket. This is what you're getting she said till I pointed out that we'd to accept their offer & we were not supposed to lose out. She kept on harping about there being no Astra Comfort auto's on Autotrader to be able to compare ......
