For those of you with an ex Kwik save/Somerfield/co op nearby try the branded co-op creamy golden vegetable soup. 50p a shout, buy 3 get the 4th free.
Tastes great, fry off some chicken & mushrooms, garlic, herbs etc. & pour over some pasta. :P

Least of many evils, seeing as how I'm already on medication for my blood pressure.

No caffeine, 'cos I'm an insomniac.  No sugar, 'cos I'm diabetic.  No alcohol, 'cos I'm overweight.  No ciggies, 'cos they were killing me.

I'm having soooooo much fun!
let me get this right - all this to extend you're lifespan, by removing everything you enjoy  :o
so you may live a extra ten years, but it feels like thirty, cause you can't enjoy it  :-/

I would submit that it's about having a lifestyle that promotes good health in an effort to prevent the steady decline into ill-health with all the misery that would involve.

Personal responsibility in how we look after our health goes beyond how we behave and as Jereboam rightly says, (in paraphrase) it's also about ensuring that our loved ones are not saddled with the unhappy and unnecessary effects of our personal indulgence.

Don't go for the posh tinned soups myself.  Cup-a-soup for me.  Drink gallons of it, as I try to avoid tea and coffee because of the caffeine content.
On the other hand, my home made soups are absolutely superb (souperb?).  Especially the fish soup.   :) :) :)

And now for one of life's imponderables: why has Batchelors Cream of Asparagus Cup-a-soup disappeared from the supermarket shelves?  :(

I would however be careful about the salt content of these products J.

Thanks for the favourable interpretation - it's true to some extent.  But after I thought about it a bit longer, I realised that my motivation wasn't actually quite as altruistic as that.

To be honest, I was putting on weight at about a pound a month, all my clothes were too tight, and I felt like sh*t all the time.  I was drinking too much whiskey, but otherwise my eating habits weren't that bad, so there was limited scope for improvement.  Big problem was (and still is) lack of exercise.  Asthma and arthritic knees (combined with the obesity) tend to slow me down a bit.  Eventually went to see the doctor, and he put me on some appetite reducing medication.  I'm still on it, and I've managed to shed about 9kg, but it stalled at the beginning of the winter and I actually gained a bit, though I've got it stabilised at the moment.  Still feel like sh*t a lot of the time, though.
