Have to agree with TB - as a phone my son's IP is totally useless - reception, calls not going through.

I am back on Nokia's after various flirtations with Windows Mobile.

My phone doesn't pretend to be an iPhone, it eats them for breakfast!

Your statement is wrong really, I think you mean anything else is trying to beat the iPhone, which is true but that has been done many times by many phones, its the appstore which hasn't been beaten. YET!

Please don't get me started as you will loose!! hehe

I hate Apple more than I hate hitler!!
  :y

Which is why your 'factual' input really doesn't count for much.  Until you have an un-biased view, your opinion becomes jaded, and therefore, useless.

You are like the Apple FanBoy's who wont touch anything 'IBM based', but in reverse.  It's quite frankly pathetic.

Nobody who has any knowledge can say the iPhone is as bad as you claim.  It is an excellent multimedia device.  Apple should unleash it a little though.  That's the way Apple work, and work they do!

I'd personally never have one, because I like to use a phone as a phone.  I'll ultimately have to own one of these 'stupid piss poor attempts of being a proper computer' in the near future, as there wont be a choice.  Until then, I'll stick with my phone....... and use it as a phone.

And no, I'm not in my 60's and I'm not a technophobe.  I'm 28, and I'm a Computer Hardware Engineer.

Now I was really enjoying a nice little dibate here, its always a bit of fun when it comes to Apple vs the World etc. and thats all it should be, no need to get angry about it.

And you have to go and spoil it!! There is no need to start attacking people's oppinions in that way.

I am not pathetic, it is my oppinion, deal with it. You know nothing about me or my knowledge. Just because I made a joke about hitler you assume I talk crap!

No i haven't owned and iPhone but I know plenty of people that do, including my partner. Some like it some don't. All have broken, some more than once! I have had 5 HTC phones over the years and non of them have broken! All of them are also a little bid gelous when they see my phone and say does mine do that then? then I say, errrr no!!

That makes me happy, even though WM is not as slick and can crash from time to time. Its still a better OS for people that know how to use it. Again that is my oppinion!

For Jamie

As for saying HTC has lost its way I really disagree, they are the only people out there making progress, trying new things, creating a good spectrum of phones for people with different tastes. I do agree that they are lacking in some areas, for one they are trying to do too much, making to many phones and not perfecting any of them to their true potential. They need to slow down and focus on one or two devices and make them perfect!!

As an ex-HTC devotee, sadly we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.  Its not just 'innovations' (step backwards) like touch-flo, its basic hardware implementation - they aim to get the 'big figures' for marketing, but fail to make them work well.  Not dissimilar to looking around PCs in PC World - overpriced stuff with 'the right specs' but disappointly low performers.

No smartphone is perfect for everyone, there is no one-size-fits all, so we all have different requirements based on what we individually see as essential, and don't mind compromising on what is not essential to us.

If my old Touch Pro did what it claimed to do, I would still use it.  But it failed on virtually every level - slow, unstable, GPS was next to useless (I turned it on in Spalding when I picked up the Elite, *STILL* hadn't got a fix by the time I got to Northampton),poor battery life, poor phone signal, unstable bluetooth, suspect voice dialling, and not very rugged (keyboard had started to dettach after less than a year).

As a phone, its not the best. Some nice touches on it for usability, but poor reception in weak areas ensures its not a great phone.  Few smartphones are to be honest - cramming so much into small packaging, just seems they end up compromising the radio.

So if you want a phone to be a phone only, the older Nokias (6210/6310 era) still rule...

good news for the budget.. still using them ;D

but in restaurants where people put them on the table I feel mine like a dinosaur ;D

Yeah I know bud, never gonna agree on everything, the world would be a boring place if we did.

I'd just like to say my HD2 does everything I need and more. I know it has glitches but HTC do generally fix them eventually or XDA do. I really like HTC Sense, everything is close to hand. And the main thing is it does more than 1 thing at a time!  :y

Nobody has mentioned Blackberries much, does that mean nobody likes them, or is it they are not considered a real "smartphone"??

My BB pearl has GPS, satnav, reads/sends emails, does OOF pretty much everywhere, has ok battery life, is not a brick, and makes a pretty decent job of being a phone too.

nobody like them but me??

They are something that I know nothing about, I know people that use them and seem happy with them but for some reason they don't have any appeal to me. I don't know if its just the design of them or the fact that most have a full keyboard on them and to me thats just a waste of real estate, prefer big big screen and touch keyboard. hehe

BB's make sense in the corporate world, but why on earth would anybody consider them in a non corporate environment :o

BB's still rule in corporates, due to centralised control and configuration.

Yes, but badly ;).  True multitasking (rather than the half hearted attempt Apple currently have) with be the iPhone's undoing I reckon.

That said, WM is poor at multitasking - the CE architecture is nearer to Windows 95 than modern OS's.

WM's biggest issue now is lack of direction - app vendors won't develop for it now, and will play a wait-and-see game with W7M.  That was the final nail for me, and reason I have now left the WM camp  :'(.  WM6.5 I thought was a big step in the right direction for WM over 6

MS tend to patch up WM promptly (or did), HTC had always been far to lax imho - possibly because no software/firmware could help with the poor hardware implementations.

Well it works fine to me, I can run my sat nav and take a call etc. While the sat nav still gives me directions in background.

Or write an e-mail or browse the net while in a call.

Better yet Play Gran Turismo 2 while uploading pictures & videos to youtube!! (I aint actually done this one but it is possible) hehe

Thats all the multitasking I need generally. Lets see iPhone do that.

I'm on Vodafone, so no matter what phone I use, I fall over on the 'during a call' bit, because unless you are on top of Vodafone's headquarters around here, forget trying to use anything as a phone ;D

Though, just for your info, the crApple gayPhone can do half-arsed multitasking with certain apps (phone being one of those), so it is certainly possible to do web/email/satnav/games whilst in a call.

To the best of my knowledge, however, crApple gayPhone cannot play Grand Tourismo ;D

This was my second ever cellular telephone (the first was even bigger) ;D ;D

The option of displaying it on the restaurant table was never considered due to the size and the obligation we had to carry them in a briefcase out of sight. :-X

At the moment I'm phone less - and surviving since losing my Motorola A 1000 - despite two Treo 600's, a brace of Blackberry's? and a S/E 910i  laying on the desk as I type this. ::)

I wouldn't mind another up to date telephone that would allow me to OOF when on the HOOF but am clueless as to what to get :-[ :-[
