Although Tunnie have already said that for web use the iPhone is good - should I also consider the HTC, as the lack of useable apps will not bother me because I will simply be using it to log-on here?

I don't talk, text or mail on the 'phone very much so am looking for something that's not too feature heavy as I won't exploit all that it has to offer - but would prefer a largish screen to make using this site as civilised as possible.

With double tap zoom surfing on this site is a breeze, i did like android but iPhones are just so much nicer to use for web browsing.

Copy and paste for example (granted too way to long to appear on iPhone) but its just easy to use, attempting to highlight something in android to copy is a pain, takes about 3/4 attempts to get the word you want.

I also used to crack phones and such, no need now. nDrive for iPhone is £4.99, its full Satellite Navigation, postcodes, lane assist, the works! In combination with the LPG apps using Google Maps, (android has only 1 'good' LPG app which is actually very poor)

All freeview channels free on the iPhone too  :)

For what you want you will find the iphone

1) To big
2) To expensive
3) To easy to damage

So find something cheaper which you can get on with....drop into a local car phone warehouse or similar to try some out.  :y

As for the pinch to zoom function Tunnie, your wrong, a number of apps already support it, its only Googles own apps that have not....well, that was up until the update which is now out in beta version....

Android's biggest issue (OS stability aside) is that HTC make them all (or virtually all?), and HTC have taken their eye off the ball in an attempt to chase crApple.

Winmobile's (pre v7) was that HTC made them all, same applies as above.  v7 is not released, not backwards compatible with earlier ones, a bit of an unknown.

Nokia's Symbian has fallen over simply because of lack of foresight.  Symbian, even now, is just the backend OS, not the frontend.

crApple falls down on 2 massive flaws - a very poor phone reception (not just latest, which is dire), and its reliant on gayTunes, which is piss poor on Windows.

Gooseberry, or whatever it is that RIM sell is purely for corporates.  There is absolutely no reason for a consumer to have one over a proper smartphone.

I know crApple fanboys will always say that gayPhone is best. You will never change their minds.  In some cases they are right, eg if you want an gayPod primarily but with a handy phone built in.  But in many cases its not the best, particularly if the 'phone' bit is the most important feature.

Windows works well for those that want massive flexibility, but its pre v7 future is over. v7 will lose that flexibility.  Very good if you want to sync with Exchange Server collabaration tools.

Rasberry is ideal if you want to manage many phones in a corporate environment and can afford the required BES.

Nokia (Symbian) and Android both lack any particular strengths that stand out, but if they meet your needs, then they are worth considering.

Trouble is they have been poorly implemented, i've used similar ones, just does not match Apple experience.

1) Too big? Its no bigger than Nexus, i don't notice it in my pocket. For touch screen you need a decent size screen to type at speed.

2) Yup agree its expensive, but not much more than other handsets out of contract

3) Dropped and the glass can crack, but general use its same as any other phone. I had a HTC SPV M3100 few years ago, i dropped that, killed it!

I see iPhone as just as more powerful PDA with phone functions, i do everything but make calls on my iPhone  ;D

A quality phone. Before HTC tried to make everything emulate gayPhone.

He's got a 3G. Crap signal however you hold it.  Then hit with a double whammy of Vodafone, which is universally rubbish in most areas compare to the competition in my experience.

Think I'll stick with HTC at least I can make calls with it and the bluetooth car kit doesn't make me sound like I'm scuba diving.

gayPhones don't work well in less than very strong signal areas.  That means its useable on o2, utter shite on Vodafone.

Most of the Androids are still made by HTC (who are the biggest smartphone manufacturer)
