I may lose friends on this one but I'll stick to my guns, sorry :-[

I would welcome this on my local road.  It's a 20mph with speed bumps and quite rightly so, there are 2 schools and it is 99% residential with lots of kids that still play outdoors and is fantastic to see in today's society.

The problem is that forget 30, alot of vehicles on this road including small hgvs do nearly 40!  I have seen a quad doing at least 50.  It's not as if there is no police presence here, twice daily patrols of either MOD plod or MPs.

It is just a matter of time before a young child is seriously hurt or worse, so forgive me if I dont agree with everything posted above
You are, of course, fully entitled to your opinion, howver wrong it may be which is as valid as any :y

My own view is that kids should be taught road safety, rather and pinning everything on drivers.  Additionally, no speed limit will affect the prats doing 50mph in that environment.

As there are 2 schools in the road, perhaps all cars should be banned between 8-9am and 3-4:30pm...

i agree with the road safety teaching.  it was part of my education in primary school and it should be taught today.  however the responsibility should not be entirely placed on young kids, teacher and parents either.  it is a 2-way street and requires understanding on both sides.

Andy was taught a lot about road safety, he did his cycling proficiency and like me cycled everywhere as a kid. we were active young kids who kept out of trouble-ish.  we certainly did not do anything dangerous on the road.  yet despite all this you can do nothing about a young driver doing 80 in a 60 approaching a hump-backed bridge and not watching what was ahead of him.  Now even if it was the 30 that it is now (thanks in large part to the late Gwyneth dunwoody) he may not have survived but the chances would have been better.

Do-gooders they may be but if you arent speeding what do you have to worry?
Bang on, my friend, bang on. But the current trend is to victimise drivers.

As I said earlier, you'll never stop the thingy who does 70 outside the school at letting out time....  ...these people think the rules do not apply to them.  I am partially guilty, as I believe the daft rules shouldn't apply to anyone.

So that 2 way street must include common sense as well imho...
