I've had a hernia for about five years now, quite a large protrusion (but we'll stick with the hernia  ).

Maybe the 'garage' should have used genuine GM parts, rather than pattern

My frickin' hernia has split just at the repair. A tiny lump you could'nt see but i can push it in & it pops out when i cough etc!!! No pain but i'll have to see the doctor & be referred again i suppose.
   I would'nt mind but i was a pin cushion last time & i'm more afraid of needles than i am of Anne Widdicombe's front bottom!!

I hope i don't have to that Steve. If yours is umbilical (as mine is/was?) you can leave them but if they strangulate it's a killer. I don't know if yours ever has but when it does it sticks out, is rock hard & won't push back in (no yellow highlights please children!) You get a crippling pain akin to stitch from the top of your chest to the bit between your bollix &...well you know. If it won't push back in after 20 mins. then phone an ambulance rather' pronto...REALLY.
     Ironically i came close a few times but lie back, relax & apply gentle pressure. When it goes back in the pain switches off like a light as if nothing ever happened.

   Don't be too complacent though. I left it 2 years before doing anything & i'm sure this is just a hiccup..bleedin' hope so!!! Guy.

Mine is an inguinal hernia and is way down in my groin. It sometimes 'aches' after I over-exert my self but is generally bearable. My GP has told me to get to A&E if it goes hard or is very painful, but OK so far.

same as mine was about 12 yrs ago, took a lot of webbing to repair it so i was told. whatever that means. couldnt work for 6 months, still gets sore now and then. not a prob yet.

It's not as simple as folk make out. To get the stomach muscles to 'hold', all kinds of webbing or, more recently, steel mesh is used. It can be a problem for life, or it can be no problem once repaired. Rather apt for an omega forum.


I still can't understand how these operations were being mooted as so simple that a nurse could do it. No nurse is taking the knife to me.

I did'nt have the mesh, mine was all keyhole, no pain & home same day. Hope your groin hernia holds out Steve.
   If i need the mesh fitting then i want an Irmscher fitted. same as Beasties mesh grille!
