Who are we as a nation to condemn the Americans for their use of the language, English as we know it is extensively French based, the British rarely use it or pronounce it correctly, generally through laziness. The Welsh add an "o" to use it although most Welsh do not use or pronounce their own language any way. I get annoyed with my offspring for using Americanism's such as "my bad" when they make a mistake >:(. My own English may not be perfect but I do try to engage the brain before opening the mouth. :y

That makes you quite unique in the OOF community :D :D :D

I have to tread a little carefully here as I have fairly recently tracked down my absentee father to the US. It appears I have an American step-mother!

I think it is easy to make the mistake of taking the least attractive attributes of any country as a whole and as it enacts its foreign policy and applying them to people of that country, yet when you meet the individuals of that country they are, for the most part, friendly and welcoming (with the possible exception of the French  :P).

As for the origins of the US, if they hadn't had significant assistance from the French in the War of Independence they may very well have remained part of the British Empire for a good while.

Fair comment. I have these last few days been trying to think of anything good that has come out of the USA.  Nope, still can't muster anything. ;D ;D ;D

And the Spanish.

My wife.  And having spent a lot of time in the USA over the last 8 years I cant wait for the day I can leave the UK and move over there :y

Oh and on the subject of beer, their mass produced stuff is just as pish as our carlsberg, heineken, etc..... most US microbreweries are producing extremely good beers that are equal to our own.  I particularly like the Kona beers, unfortunately I have yet to find a supplier here.

Yeah, their beer is gradually improving, based on my more recent visits..

Remember, though, they're not stupid. Oh, no. ;)

Fantastic. Of course it only features the dumb answers but it wouldn't have taken long to compile either in the USA or in Britain. Dumbed down drones fed on KFC.

Having been to the States, I too wouldn't have minded living there. The country has everything - mostly to excess! Ah those all you can eat breakfasts with endless coffee for very little money! 40 oz Cokes on the road till the next gas station.

I still can't think of any thing good that has come out of the place. Ford Mustang?

Somehow I doubt they'd do any better, Lizzie. :(
