Who are we as a nation to condemn the Americans for their use of the language, English as we know it is extensively French based, the British rarely use it or pronounce it correctly, generally through laziness. The Welsh add an "o" to use it although most Welsh do not use or pronounce their own language any way. I get annoyed with my offspring for using Americanism's such as "my bad" when they make a mistake >:(. My own English may not be perfect but I do try to engage the brain before opening the mouth. :y

edit: must add, however within time countries neighbouring will effect others by social relations, wars , invasions etc..

for example some Romanian words are directly used in Turkish where as some ottoman words are used in Romania..

Having known Americans most of my life, visited their country, lived with Americans on a number of acassions, and loved everything about the United States of America along with their culture, no one can say anything against them whilst I am around! ;) ;)

For me my life, and the future, would be a lot sadder without the US of A, and certainly I believe our very existence (well mine and my children anyway!) would be in grave doubt without them since 1940, to date :y :y :y

I would also prefer to see the UK as an American State than us become just another State of Europe! :P :P

Are you a dictator now then LZ? or is this just a gender thing :D :D  I was of the understanding we can say what we like, though we may lose our post count...... :D :D :D

Oh yes Mike, my natural trait is towards being a dictator!  It is so much more fun than being a boring liberal democrat.  You can get away with so much more in an uncomplicated way!  Everyone expects you to take over the home, office, country, world................!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Indeed Cem, and I bet many English people who hammer on about "proper English" will be horrified to learn that since the not insignificant little matter of the Norman invasion of 1066 much of our language is a mixture of French and English.  i.e two examples I can always remember is Pig is English, but Pork is French, and Sheep English, Mutton, French!

Our "English" language is also based on Germanic language, that came across to these isles after the Romans left with the Anglos and Saxons.  Norse language is also within "English" due to both the Vikings and the Normans, who were of Norse origin.  In short our language is a bastardised version of many. ;) ;)

What nonsense....

Neither Budweiser nor Boddingtons are even close to being drinkable.

 ;)

If you are talking about the proper one I think a few east Europeans will disagree.

what p's me off about American spelling is when it's used and the writer has no idea that they've used the 'wrong' spelling. eg here (those that don't use English as their first language are excused  ;))

If you're referring to things like the -ize endings, I refer the honourable member to my post above.  ;) ;D

No reference to your postat all  ;)   ;) ;)
If you look through variousposts here, some very recent, there's tire when it should be tyre and coincidentley we've had talk of their 'pay check' ......  :-? As a nation we must obviously watch too much American telly. My nephews have even refered to bloody dipers (sp?)
