Understood Mark. Private plates are an unnecessary indulgence, can't deny that. However i would never spend what you have to travel around Europe or live in London (which is where i'm originally from anyway) I'd rather have a house & workshop elsewhere for my Mig & classic car.
    You've done very well for yourself, will progress further in life & so you should. You've worked hard & deserve it. When certain folk made jibes at you regarding parental help i stuck up for you & put them right because i know you better.

Mine has gone up in value since 10 years ago when I bought it, no money wasting here  :y

CHR 1S would do me but it's not very clever.

I suspect some of the more obvious ones might help to protect a car from straight theft otherwise it's not something I will be affording.  I think.

Found mine on DVLA site..............didn't like the price though! somebody was having a dream at £6k!!

got my real surname on mine, many years ago, cost me £250 then.

Is it me or have the boys in blue been cracking down on special plates? I know you can still buy the registrations, but seem to see less of the modified spacing, black screw covers in odd positions etc than perhaps a year or two back.

ps, I'm with Tunnie. We had acl 10x on an xr3 years ago, my wife's initials. Didn't give it a second thought when I chopped it in for a carlton.

Don't think I could afford mine...
C 13 GGY (Cleggy) or D 4 VID (David).

Besides they attract too much attention for a tug!

Years ago a mate of mine Colin, rang Birmingham  Licensing (COL), and requested the number COL 1 N, if he bought a new car in the August. He was told they couldn't do that because they didn't know if it would be issued. Apparently they issued the numbers in sequence and it all depended on what came out.

To be honest, I would rather have had a place further out, I really miss having a garage to tinker on the 2.2, its getting a bit neglected now  :'(

Also miss just having the bike there, doing little jobs on that or taking it out. I can of course go home and do all that, its just a pain.

I chose to live in London for 3 main reasons

1) Free Commute, it costs me nothing to get to work, which is big bonus when my mortage is a considerable 4 figure sum!  :o

2) If I did loose my job, renting a flat out in London within 10/15 min walk of 6 different stations, would be fairly easy

3) If I had to change jobs, for my kind of work, it has to be London. Doubt there are many mobile content/entertainment companies in Northamptonshire.

But even if I had the cash, private places don't really appeal to me. If I had £500 to spend on car or bike outside maintenance, I would do the BMW GS off-road course in Wales  :)

my plate is purely to add my personal touch to my car

i know a private plate isnt for everyone and respect your opinion :y

i dont actually see my plate on my car as being much different to having the big alloys on my car, just something that makes it unmistakably "mine"

Iirc there is a Northern Ireland prefix MJI, which if you bought one with four numbers after it, would probably be inexpensive.
i.e. MJI 3628.
If you wanted one with fewer numbers, then it would start getting expensive. :y
