Aren't all registrations numbers private as no two vehicles have the same one ?  :D

I almost slipped into pedantic mode there, sorry  :-[

Is it me or have the boys in blue been cracking down on special plates? I know you can still buy the registrations, but seem to see less of the modified spacing, black screw covers in odd positions etc than perhaps a year or two back.

ps, I'm with Tunnie. We had acl 10x on an xr3 years ago, my wife's initials. Didn't give it a second thought when I chopped it in for a carlton.
I think that may have something to do with in-car ANPR systems!!  Kinda points out the reason for the regs AND gives the opportunity for a tug.

I bought a shogun a couple of years ago with the number plate ??? USF.
I sold the reg to a bloke at work called yusef for 900 quid.
The DVLA gave me the previous plate which was ??? BRY that I sold to someone else (bryan) for 300 quid.

Considering the shogun only cost me 1600 to start with, I think I did pretty well out of it.

Ooh, that's a bit deep!   ;D

As I recall the term 'private registration' is a bit of a misnomer as you don't actually buy the reg - you are given exclusive use, which is a very different fishy.

I haven't seen any of those awful scripted or messed about plates for ages either, as said above the rozzers probably got their backsides into gear about it.

Doubt whether I'd ever give good money for a plate, but if I did, it'd be for an attractive combination of numbers rather than an atempt to spell out my name / initials / allusions to sexual prowess  ::)
On the theme of numbers once 'owned' but passed on with the car - briefly owned a '61 Singer Gazelle with the plate 4400 DA.......car sold in 1983 for £260..... >:(
