Blown a gasket did i over react?
« on: 17 March 2011, 17:16:32 »

A friend of my 10 year old son came to visit today and both boys went into my sons bedroom to play xbox
I popped my head in the door and noticed the lad had swastika's all over his hands and arms.  I blew my top ran water into the sink and told the lad  wash off the swastikas or get out.  I explained why i was so angry  and the lad claimed he didnt what they stood for.

did i over react? would any of you have done the same?
the boy in question is 11 so i think he understood more than he admits to.

I would have done the same ;) ;)

At 11 years old he should know what they mean but in the modern, PC school system it's altogether possible he didn't >:( >:(

At the end of the day you only made him wash his hands and explained why ;) ;)

Well done Doog!! :y :y :y :y

In my book you did exactly the right thing, and I am sure the lad will not do it again as he will know how wrong it is :y :y :y

However, will his parents know enough to educate their young son?   That is my worry!! ::) ::) ::)

There is far too much ignorance about the Nazis, and that is one reason why, whenever I can, I bang on about that terrible period of history, not caring what people think of me!  The young must know! :y :y :y :y :y

It's more likely, sadly, that the boy will tell his parents and they'll do you for assault  :(

I'm sure I drew them when I was that age.

It would be nice if he were innocent. :) :)

Precisely. I personally see nothing wrong in what you did but how will his parents react or more to the point how they parent him?

They might react badly or if an elder brother/schoolfriend graffitied him as thier idea of a joke it could all be innocent. I'm not so sure nowadays a lad of that age would be that aware of WW2.

MY HOUSE MY RULES!!

As for assault i never laid a finger on him
i did not tell him to do it, he was given a choice one of them was leaving he chose to stay and wash it off.

If it can be interpreted as assalt i dont care i would do it again I refuse to accept that in my house millions of people died fighting against the nazis and if he didnt know he does now.

i have a huge respect for our armed forces soldiers past and present and will not accept that in my house as the county if full of war memorials with the names of men who died fighting men wearing swastikas

You beat me to it :) It's been in use since 4000BC according to information there.. but despite all that it is definitely taboo in the West, thanks to a certain countries political movement a while back..

That's all very well on here but would an 11 year old boy know that?

The strength of your reaction is important, Doug - he now knows that that symbol will never be rehabilitated in 1000 years or more, and more importantly, why it won't be.

I applaud your reaction.
