I drove a 2.5TD with a manual box on a 25 mile journey yesterday which was about 6 miles of motorway and the rest A roads  and according to the computer I was getting 51mpg :o

I am considering selling the MX5 or Rover diesel and keeping this ;)
hmmm, what sort of money  :-/

You wouldn't want it Jaime, its a cat D and besides that, after having a new genuine clutch, CV joints, cambelt and pump belt, water pump, decated and chipped, I think she will make me sell the MX5 first :'(

Both our 2.2's are thirsty round town, loads of local journeys of 3-4 miles each way but very good on motorways at 65 to 70mph :-/

Overall don't think either are brill on fuel but neither do many miles so not a major worry :-?

I wouldn't have thought you would buy a FQ400 to drive it off turbo though!

Wife gets around 18-19mpg around town (lots of hills). I have seen 34mpg on the computer on a long trip to Gatwick at a steady (cruise) 75mph.

Have also seen 7mpg (instantaneous) for 10 miles towing the caravan up a long climb.

7.1 I think is the lowest it goes to, I've seen that too, where 1st is a bit low & 2nd is a bit too high a gear!  ;)

Depends on the hill & the amount of stuff SWMBO has packed ...... and whether there's some bugger behind in an oil burner trying to get passed!  :y  :y

However the car is laiden/packed, it should be capable of easily maintaining traffic speed.

Remember, the speed limits are a target, not a guide :P
