What MPG Do You Get????
« on: 15 August 2009, 21:58:35 »

Evening All.

Just had to tell you the sort of MPG im reguarly getting on long journeys and see if its the norm.

Mines a (ex The Boys) 99/T 2.5TD Elite Auto(AR35) saloon which has been chipped.

Now I understand the chip will have made the trip computer slightly out but on A road and motorway jouneys of 250+ miles I am reguarly getting 52mpg.

Even allowing for a 10% error that still equates to over 45mpg. Thats bloody amazing in a car as big as this with 300KG of tools in the boot.

I don't drive it like I stole it or anything, but I don't hang around out of junctions and sit at 80 on the motorway.

Had a 1.8 Corolla Verso before and never got over 37mpg, although that was a company car and I wasn't paying for the fuel which may explain that. ;D

That's bloody good, your car must be running tip top to get that sort of mileage, well done

i can safely say TheBoy never got that kind of mpg  ;D

I get 29/30 average at the moment, but in colder weather its 25. My commute is only 11 miles so most of the journey its not hot.

On a run to holland fully loaded can average 34/35

I get very good value on a run, but spend a lot of miles in town nowadays.  I have never heard of the chip putting the comp out.

You could always check consumption the old way, brim tank, zero odometer, drive a few days, brim again & work it out..

My average is running at about 23 mpg with little motorway working at the moment, and too many A road jouneys in the congested south east 8-) 8-) 8-).

Your car mus be the slowest car to heat up in the world then  :-?. I'd consider 11 miles to be a fairly long comute and the car to be warmed up in the first couple of miles.  :y

2.6 V6 auto........

Averaging 27 mpg over a month, with a daily 18 mile round trip to work, tootling around at the weekends and a monthly run over to Caernarfon in North Wales......,

Car warms up within 5 mins easily in the mornings.........!!!

Can get up to about 40 mpg indicated on the display if I drive a 60mph going to wales.....

Happy with the overall though considering the joy of driving it...........!!!!

I managed to get high 30s (genuine calculated, not fuel computer reading) out of it on a run driven not exactly like Miss Daisy, but not exactly ragging it either.

Being an auto, economy below 50mph when the gearbox goes into lockup isn't great.

That said, I would be impressed if anyone got a genuine 40mpg average from any auto Omega, so may be worth doing a manual check - eg, as soon as fuel light comes on, pop in 22.7l (5g) and see how far you get before it comes on again :y

How is the old tractor, we miss that car

I'm fairly surprised that mine is averaging 30mpg at the moment. On a trip to bonnie Scotland I got 35mpg with 4 adults and luggage.
I find it's worse if I don't let it warm up before getting on the M27 though, and the computer says it's more economical at 85mph than at 70mph. Somehow I doubt that the local constabulary would accept this as an excuse though!!

I'm averaging just under 30 round town and recently got 44 average on a 1200 mile round trip to scotland but that includes local pottering whilst up there.
