As will the clutch, in between DMFs...  ...on the upside, I seem to recall Mundano DMFs being only around ££400?

Indeed Andy, I have wrestled with this decision recently as Manual cars are far more common, but I know I would regret a move to a manual in the longer term, particularly work wise

whats your mileage like? Its only worth paying the premium for a diesel if you do big miles. If you just bumble around town, something thats £500 more for a diesel is going to take its time paying the difference back

I average around 15000k a year......

Where do you commute to the moon?

  You nearly made me think too many '0' Only about average miles, not all commute, most is running around the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees for work

10k a year is about the break even point so with 15k its gunna be worth a diesel for you.

I'd consider Ford Mondeo with you budget, going to be much more reliable than anything french 

Funnily enough looks like I am going to view a 2.5TD on saturday, the same garage has a Mondeo with a cdti engine, got to be worth a look

TDCI in those, not CDTI 

Engine wise has 110bhp and 130 bhp versions from 2.0, i *believe* its just engine management for the increase.

There is a 2.2 TDCI which pushes out 150bhp, i prefer the looks of Mondeo, but i would go Veccy C i feel, due to service costs thanks to Trade club

for reference, my 3.2 manual averages 24mpg as a taxi. :-/ longer runs ie horsham to norwich, 31 is more like it. p.s i do 65-70k miles a year.

mondeo diesels 01 on watch out fo suspension rear bushes pumps and the dual mass as said also the injectors need coding on some and thats a killer financially.

my mate  a few months ago at our local garage had a clutch kit,dmf and the starter was nackered too because the flywheel nackered it.
total cost inc the vat and fitting just shy of 900 quid ouch and thats way to dear in my book.
the earlier mondeos were capeable of huge miles without chucking there hands in but the later ones no chance 

i don't see mentioned that the Omeeega diesels run on cheep bio no probs and i know people spending very little on it.
50 p a litre i have heard of if you know the right people but bio costs me about 20p less than regular derv on a petrol forecourt.  every little helps

Mondeo won't last half as long as an omega IMO. Had a petrol 2.0. Worn out by 100k

Vamps needs to accept the way forward is LPG omega.

It's got to be down to how you drive it and maintain it. My neighbour has just got rid of a '05 2.0 diesel mondeo estate he has been taxiing and that had 325k on the clock. It's only the last 12 months that oily bits have started to be replaced hence the reason to get rid. aside from that it has been the usual servicing and consumables.

My father recently picked up an '06 2.0 diesel that he uses for his commute. cruising at 85 he sees 40.9mpg on the computer..... not too bad surely?

Personally, i think diesels should be left to commercial vehicles. (Sorry tractor boys  ) Get a V6 auto mig with LPG and you'll have everything you need

you pay more when you buy,
parts are expensive.. imo repairs are complex ..

if you need fuel economy , buy a four pot with lpg..
