buying help needed....
« on: 08 October 2010, 09:34:02 »

anyone who knows facelift 3.2's inside out free this weekend to take a trip?

i just found a 3.2 estate in Epping.....

with everything i need already on it.....

Y plate.

121,300 on the clock.   and what sounds like a full service history.

at £1295

already know it's about due a cam-belt,

seller has almost perfect feedback, in large numbers...

have agreed sale in principle subject to inspection and paperwork.

and they're fine with it being rejected if on inspection it fails to live up to it's advert, or be deemed a good un.

obviously i'd cover expenses, a meal, and a case of beer in the way of thanks....

ideally , someone with the ability to use/borrow a reader to check the car's memory etc....   just to be safe....

and then i'll get one of you experts to do the cambelt .....

(it's done about 34,000 on current cambelt,)

it's in Epping.

i'm in Oxford.

I know it's short notice....  and a bit cheek frankly....   but ANYONE???

i'd be relatively happy looking at a minifacelift 3.0 on my own, i've experienced enough faults to have a clue....    8-)     but i know ZIP about facelifts and 3.2's

entering james cagney yankee drawl mode...

I'm a begging youse guys.....   don;t make me crawl......  :y

JC mode disengaged....

it's this one....  to give the photo hounds a chance to sniff out anything....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160489573133&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

apparently they also have an X plate elite estate , either coming in , or just in, that will be slightly cheaper.....

feedback is good.....   pictures seem promising, and they're flexible...   it doesn't have to be office hours, although better if it is....   and it could be sunday rather than saturday.....

fingers crossed

MaxV6 - sorry, I'm busy this weekend, so cannot assist.

However, the car is essentially the same as a 3.0l, so pretty much same applies.

Do learn how to do a 'pedal trick' (see maint guides for paperclipping). 3.2 suffer from a starting cat issue, expect to find 0420 and 0430 codes (this can be resolved without buying new cats, by moving 2 of the exhaust sensors further back).

The CD Changer is finicky and delicate. I know you like your tunes, so check that works as expected. Do not use CDRs in that stereo.

Expect the interior to show more wear than earlier Omegas.

Rust under rear wiper is common, same as prefacelifts.

Performance wise, should be on a par with 3.0, engine should sound similar, autobox should be almost as smooth, and quick to respond.

Generally, bodywork should be relatively rust free - less issues with door tops, but the rears can go around wheel arches, as can the wheel arches (as per prefacelifts)

Bumpers often scraped - they stick out about 6 miles in front of the car, so the corners get whacked frequently.

Seat heaters, doubt they all work, esp the front. Again, same as prefacelifts.

In summary, its the same car underneath as yours, slightly different interior, should feel and go like yours.  Cat issue could be a bargaining point ;)

NOTE: 3.2 has 2 EMLs, both should light up initially with ign iirc...

Ah, its an MV6 I see.  So will lack refinements like sunroof etc.

Looks like it has NCDC headunit - this should have a half height GID or a full height CID, not a standard MID. Basically, if you can get radio station on the display, its good enough!

MV6 seat heaters seem more resilient, so would like to think they would work. Doesn't have rear heaters.

Ta very much jaimee.

i'd still prefer an elite....     and Pedro's 2.6 is my fallback solution...   although i'm a bit stunned by some of the insurance quotes i've had...

(Bell quoted identical for the 3.2 Mv6 as the 2.6 Mv6 , and they're ALL a fair bit more than my current car....   )

anyone bored this weekend???????

i've read up on the pedal trick...  i'm kind of okay with that, it's more things like wishbones, and other deep dark secrets i've never encountered....

i'm just not that confident i won;t end up with an albatross.

I'm free at the weekend. I have a 3.2 Elite estate we could use to compare it to if you wanted. I'm in Kidlington, so probably not far from you. I'm also a motor trader, so if I take my trade plates the guys may be more receptive to a bit of haggling.

JOSH<    I love you and want to have your babies !!!!!

(okay, maybe that's over reacting.....   )

it ALMOST makes up for me not quite being able to afford the beautiful estate you have up.......   i've been saving , but the current miggy eats piggy banks as well as petrol, and the kids are not helping....

PM to re-acquaint contacts on the way.....

i'm easy for whenever is best for you really....  and i'll find some way to recompense your time......

Would it be politically incorrect to suggest selling the kids, and buying a Rolls Royce ;D ;D ;D

excellent plan mate, other than the fact i hate rolls royces... ugly , not as spacious as they ought to be, and over priced over rated...

now, selling the kids and buying an Aston....  now that's a MUCH better plan!!!!

except i'd still need a miggy or similar for work....

there's very few pretty estates with features and capacity of the mig..

that said, i'd probably settle for a Jag X type estate...

or soemthing like it...

i'm also partial to 5 series of a certain age...   i really liked the look of a 540 estate i saw recently...

gorgeous midnight mettalic blue, with some really nice rims on it....

but the running costs..... OMG

just to confirm that has the half GID screen with the NCDC 2013 nav system, same as i had in my facelift 3.0 elite

from the pics it does look extremely well maintained cosmetically

Thanks Danny....

I look forward to wandering down there with Josh, and checking it out....

if the mechanicals are as good as the exterior appears on the photos, it could be bargain of the month....

we'll see.....   obviously there's no certainty of perfection... but hell.... gotta be worth a punt....

who knows, if between elite pete, and Daz, the old one gets back in to shape....  i may have to start collecting them.

which means i need to clear my driveway....
 :-X

that's gonna take some work......
