I remember the York meet. And the airfield. And Petes mx5 in my mirror.  3 or 4 times, as I recall.....

Perhaps Pete had just done lunch.

Perhaps I had just refilled the 3.2 estate.

Perhaps I was calling the start and had a millisecond advantage!

Either way, I am quite unsure as to whether the scoobie or the omega would come out on top. Different cars, driven by similarly trained and bottle proof drivers, on the same track?  Probably the scoobie.

Trained driver in the omega versus standard enthusiastic scooby owner?  I would probably give that one to the omega, tbh.

Would be fun On a private track though!  Lol!  ;D

I do have "Mace" my Impreza and "Obi" my Facelift MV6.

I have to say Mace has that rush of power that I am certain would beat the Omega off the line, also say sat at 70mph and you put that Loud pedal down it is up to 100mph in a blink of an eye I joke you not.. (yes all this took place on an Airfield)

Obi though has the Grunt, in 5th gear it will pull and pull. Also it seems asthough on the same section of airstrip the actual speed at the particular place seems to be the same.. It is how the Impreza does it in that Massive Rush that could give the illusion :o

However there is no doubt the MV6 handles well but the Impreza is far better. In fact you feel a far better driver in the Impreza if that makes any sense at all.

I am a lucky Boy who will post a few Pictures of My Babies as soon as I can  :y

What you describe is probably down to the totally different power delivery. Turbo cars tend to give a shove in the seat of the pants as the torque builds quite rapidly whereas with a V6 it rolls in smoothly and is there over the whole range from 2k up to the red line.

Turbo cars can feel faster than they are, especially if they have been tuned by someone who doesn't understand the subtleties of boost control. I've seen some dyno plots where the boost comes in with a huge spike at quite high revs. Probably feels terrifyingly quick for the driver (and makes the car undriveable) but when you look at the narrow power band it's probably very difficult to keep the car on the boil. Not something that can be said about the Omega's V6.

A little time on an airfield with my Race Technology AP22 might produce some interesting figures.

Having said all this, a scooby must have a significant weight advantage over an Omega, and similar power, so I would be surprised if they weren't quicker.

A friend of mine bought an chipped Impreza a few years back eagerly took me for a spin in it, then asked me the question?, yea its ok I replied, but not as quick as my Sierra Sapphire, rubbish was he's response.

So next were bashing arround in my RWD Sapphire Cosworth, mildly tunned to 310bhp.

He's response yea, my Impreza quick, but this is mental, think Ive bought the wrong car.

Fastest car I've ever had was my old revision 1 mkII MR2 turbo. Standard apart from decatted exhaust, boost limiter removed in 1st gear, lowered and stiffened.

It was down as 0-60 in 6 seconds on paper, but even bearing in mind what Kevin said about the torque build up in turbo cars, it was much much quicker.

Nothing with 4 wheels could get passed it, boy racers were a joke, it easily outdragged my dads T5 from 50-80 (which i hear are meant to be faster than 911s at this), it destroyed just about every fast non-supercar you can think of, even a few Porsches! Not even a GSX-R 600 could get away from me in it. As for Scoobies, they didn't stand a chance.

As it was an import, perhaps it had unbeknown to me been modified in Japan, but it was QUICK.

The ol' Mk2's are quick cars (and modified there are some seriously quick ones!) .. I have a soft spot for them :)

I was out in the fastest car I've ever been in yesterday, though - Dax's 427 demonstrator; 8.2ltr V8 with ~550bhp and ~700lb/ft of torque - enough torque to light the tyres up in 5th gear apparently, and that's on R888 semi slick tyres.

Due to my (not inconsiderable) size I had the seat right back - every time he hit the loud pedal I got shoved against the rolled edge of the rear firewall.. it was actually physically painful  ;D

(Sadly I didn't get to drive it; with the seat far enough back that I fit behind the wheel .. I can't get the clutch pedal all the way down!)

There's a massive difference between a quick car (I'd put my MR2 into that bracket at ~220bhp/tonne, while the Omega is 120bhp/tonne) and a fast car (like the 427 @ 450bhp/tonne!)

Then again.. I was sold as soon as he turned the key. That noise! If I'd taken my cheque book with me there'd be a deposit down on a rolling chassis already  ;D

I had a impreza 22b st1 when they came out and it was the full rally tune with anti-lag sequential box etc 0-120 was 8.5 seconds topped out at 135 weighed 1000kgs yet had 380 bhp and 445 torque
also had a mitsu evo 6 ayc tuned to and that was quick.

However i grew up and got a caterham 4.2 v8, 766 kilos 380 bhp 390 torque 0-60 3.4 seconds 0-100 10.8 seconds top speed 155 limited dont know the power to weight ratio but i do know the only car to beat it off the line costs 22 times more than mine did
