Think so... Been otherwise pleased with their performance, as was Lazydocker :y

If it's a car heavier than a fag packet I'd go with Yellows every time if using EBC - I even ran them on the MR2 (which was ~1100Kg without me) and they worked well enough from cold.

EBC pads seem to be a Marmite thing. Some people love them, others hate them. The latter appear to be in the majority at the moment. Even in Seven style car circles, there are plenty of people who reckon Green Stuff are too soft, and you can cook them easily on a track day, and if "pressing on", on the road.. in a 600 kg car! Quite what they are useful for, in that case, I don't know. Milk floats, perhaps?

Not tried them myself. I use Mintex 1144s, and they are superb in the Westfield but not ECE90 approved, so not road legal in an Omega. They would be too soft for a heavy car like the Omega too. I get 2 or 3 years out of them in the Westfield doing 3-5K a year.

You need to find a pad to suit the use you put it to. A life of 2500 miles suggests it's not just a soft pad, but that it's being overheated on a regular basis, so probably simply the wrong pad for the car.

I didn't know that about 1144s, they'd be my next go-to pad (on a light car anyway, I've never tried to track prep anything as lardy as an Omega .. could try with the 645 though, I suppose, that makes an Omega look like a clit in terms of weight  ).

I'm sure Green haven't always been as soft as they are now - once upon a time they were about as useful as cardboard from cold and now they have great bite when cold and then disintegrate (and black are one step down from that!) when hot.. I assume someone stepped on the brakes cold and went into the back of something one too many times so EBC changed all their formulations :(

Yellow, now, is much more like Green was 15 years ago..

Yep, people always used to say that yellow were lethal on the road when cold, but that doesn't sound like it's the case any more. I suspect some tweaking is to blame, as you say. People probably bought green on recommendation expecting one thing and didn't get the product they expected, hence the marmite comment.

I have no doubt that 1144s would suffer on an Omega. They have great bite from cold and superb feel - very noticeable on a non-servo system. You do have to go up their range for track use beyond sprinting, I've heard. As I say, it's horses for courses.

So no, Don't put them on the 645! :o

Oh, and all the markings on the 1144s have a habit of coming off with excessive use of brake cleaner, so go easy on that! Wouldn't want anyone to be unable to identify the compound in  use, after all. :-X

;D ;D ;D No no, of course not!

I do wonder what I'd run in the Cobra (you know, should I ever actually start..) - Jag brakes (ATE) and I was planning on going non-servo with a floor mounted dual cylinder pedal box.. still I think I have time to figure that out  ;D :-[ :-X

I'm guessing the Cobra won't be that heavy, so maybe 1144s would work?

The extra bite is welcome without a servo and they are very easy to modulate under braking as the pedal feel is very nice. They have the usual downsides of creating quite a bit of dust and squealing on occasions, although, having said that, I only get noise during the first few months of pad life.

I've heard good things about the high end Pagid pads, although they are rather expensive, and the Ferodo DS range. Not tried either, as I've pretty much settled on the 1144s for my purposes.

Cheers Kevin :)

Al - I think the Blacks are cheap as they're designed for people who want "OE" replacement but cheaper..

You say that but it does have a large boat anchor at either end ;D I moved the Jaguar diff again the other day - I've lifted lighter engines!

I think that is possible... They definitely accepted some very hard braking from cold and behaved well, but I did think I may have spotted a puff of dust when braking hard.

I was more impressed that there was no fade from them after stopping hard from speed a few times, which is where the TC ones seem to suffer most

Looking at the web sites black certainly seem to be at the start of the performance range.

http://ebcbrakes.com/products/brake-pads/

The bike page isn't graded the same, but the best pads on there are the double H sintered pads, from experience. Drilled shims for heat and noise dissipation too. So, even though I haven't tried them there is a half ounce of logic that might suggest the best ebc car pads need a bit more development. :-\

Certainly green where shite on any bike and on the omega. But then, omega brakes are shite anyway. Regardless of pads fitted. Mine and Als upgrades aside of course.

Will see if the new ones are the same compound, but with the standard set up I was getting horrific brake fade halfway to work... ::)

Fitting new pade.every two months isn't a real hard ship as it will give me chance to keep an eye on the wishbones :y

Yes too right. I can't drive with that sort of concern in the back of my mind. So yes, fit the black pass Al, they are the ones for you. ;)
