Pug 106
« on: 20 September 2007, 13:57:08 »

Yes yes, before i get blasted for swaring... its not mine!

Going to look at pug 106's and possibly 206's with someone.

What do i need to look out for on these French POS cars? (she won't drive an Omega, too big)

I assume:

Zorst, normal things?
Are pugs generally belts or are they chain?
any common issues? I know 206 will suffer from poor trim, but as pug goes i think they were quite good.

Price rang is 1.3-2.5K so looking from 1998-2001 era

thanks

I know they blow HGs but why not a Rover 25/200 - at least they are easy to fix WHEN then go wrong

Won't be needing one of those for a while.

Have been trying to steer her in Corsa direction, cause i get trade price on parts. Plus after the Omega should be easy working on.

Your right.....a 406 is not a 306 or 206 or 307 or 207 or any of the other small pugs.....

The hate them with a passion following a spate of 7 different ones where every single one had a problem from radios not working to the exhaust falling off on the A46......and they all had sub 5K miles on them!

As my father always said about french car (and he used to work for Renault), if you buy french, get the base model.....coz they dont do electrics!

Problem is, once you've driven something like an Omega, or are used to larger cars in general, small hatches always feel awful to drive and feel like they're about to fall apart every time you hit a pot hole.

I did manage to convince SWMBO to go for an MX-5 instead of another Fester last time, and it doesn't seem to have been a bad choice. A bit thirstier than most small cars (low to mid 30's to the gallon) but on the bright side it's much nicer to drive and has only needed a coil pack in 70,000 miles. Correct wheels driven too :y

The size of the boot also puts a handy limit on the amount of shopping possible  ;) (although it's JUST possible to purchase a welder from machine mart while she's in the shops and fit it in the boot) Guess who was mr. popular that day?  [smiley=evil.gif].

Ahh, but no kidy seat, so that's a show stopper.

Maybe you should get a Zafira, Tunnie, just in case?
