Thanks for the replies :)

The waterpump, stat, and rad have been replaced with new items, and the expansion bottle replaced with one from a v6 (extra aperture blocked off). Puzzling.

Any further ideas before I resort to taking the head off?

Before taking it for a run, drain the fluid, stand it in the fridge overnight, then refill.

Forgot to add, as soon as it starts pressurising stop, let it cool down, then remove the head.
