DIS Pack?
« on: 08 July 2007, 13:18:32 »

I have now concluded that my 4 pot is not firing (properly) on cyclinder 1
- inspecting the plugs after a run, 2,3,4 all look fine grey/tan deposit as normal.  No 1 is damp.
- looking down plug hole, no 1 is distinctly wet (the others look dry)
- pulling no.1 lead does not affect the engine running (altough the lead does arc to the block).  2,3,4 upset it as expected.  So I conclude that no.1 is not firing anyway, hence no change.

I have new leads, and known good plugs (I swapped 1 and 2 just to confirm with same result above).

So its only the dis pack left on the HT side I think.

I have never touched the dis pack before on any Omega so would appreciate opinions.  Is it possible to inspect the dispack internally or is it a sealed unit as it looks?  (Its completely dry BTW,  although is probably original and 13 years/180k old).

My other theory is that no.1 injector is faulty/blocked (and that the dampness is oil residue that I was unable to clean out of the plug wells).  Feels unlikely though.

I know that oil in plug wells can see off the leads.  Can it also damage the dispack?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Ian

In this scenario, I attach my timing gun to each HT lead in turn, to see if it's firing..

Looks like Ian you need some sort of medic on the case and medication for yourself before you start loosing it slightly. You will sort it very soon I am sure.  :)

I'm not a million miles away if you lose hope.. I don't suspect loom problems, because it would be missing on more than one cyl..

If all sparks are sparking... may be worth a compression test..

James,

Could dis -pack fail on one lead only?

I seem to remember Mark saying that a spark in open air does not mean there is a good spark under compression.   Anyway, I am going to recheck that that lead is producing a spark to the block, I may have got that wrong..

Compression check first, nice easy job on a 4 pot. IMHO.

As far as i am aware....yes  :-/ reason being a dispack failing on a v6 can lead to it running on 5...
