Don't continue to use the car with a misfire, the unburnt fuel will kill the precious metal in the catalytic converters.

Tests you can do before tech2 -

1) Compression test, get a tester of ebay for a tenner, very easy job. Hope to goodness your compressions are OK though

2) Check connection to the coil per plug pack is OK.

3) Remove the plugs, look for a black one, that will be the cylinder that's not firing.

A failed coil pack may not log a failt code, however using a Tech2 and test plugs, you should be able to identify if there is a strong spark on each plug...

It will.....if its bad enough....occasional miss doesnt....missing for more than about 10secs, EML on and ecu reports a missfire detected  :y

DBW engines log a misfire.  Non DBW do not.

Right quick update  :(
I took all the plugs out today, cleaned and replaced them. Looks like some oil is getting onto the rear two plugs.
Put it all back together and now the car won't even start, just turns over  :o
What could I have done? I only cleaned the plugs  :-?

Did you clean out the dispack, if so, what with?

Does it fire at all ? Plug leads in wrong order (on DIS pack or plugs) perhaps?  (not sure if you took them off the dispack)

I haven't cleaned the diss pack at all, I did pull the rubber sleeves off the springs and re tensioned them.
It looks like a sealed unit to me.
I regapped the plugs as 3 of them were well over 1mm.
Now it doesn't fire whatsoever and stinks of petrol after turning it over.

Silly question .....   you did put the HT leads back on the DIS pack in the right order ... didn't you ??

:)

I would now try removing a plug, connecting to HT lead, grounding the thread and cranking over .. look for a spark at the plug ... as It sounds to me you have no spark from DIS pack .. or spark is occuring at the wrong time  .....

Is a bit of a silly question  :) as on the 2.2 the plug caps are built onto the diss pack (no leads) and is impossible to get it wrong  ;)
If there is no spark does this point to a faulty diss pack?

Not neccesarily......

It could be imobiliser stopping it from starting for example.....but the EML would flash at the same time as cranking....plus i also thinks it shuts the fuel pump off so you wouldnt get a stink of petrol.

Could be a fuse......the big buggars in the engine compartment....check those  :y

My ex veccyB wouldnt start one day.....that was a fuse in the eng compartment for the ECU.....i found that when i tried to read the ecu for what it thought was wrong and i couldnt......obviously as the ecu had no power.

Just to remind peeps, the 2.2 uses a CPP arrangement, so no seperate DIS or HT leads.
