« on: 22 January 2008, 16:52:38 »

Hi guys I was just wondering if anyone on here can tell me what the s button does, I know it's for " a sporty drive" but it makes such a change. :o. I've had sports mode on two cars before but they were not as drive changing as this on the miggy, :-? :-?
Thanks in advance, steve.

the s button holds each gear for longer time using the full revs but i think you only get 1 2 and 3rd

I will change into 4th.. when you're going fast enough [smiley=evil.gif]

It also isn't so quick to change up when you lift off, which means when you come back on the gas it's more responsive. Seems to shift a little harder too. Maybe it compromises a little on the comfort of the shift by upping the ATF pressure?

Don't think it has any affect other than to the transmission but it certainly makes the car feel more lively.

I thought 'S' mode locks out 4th?  :-/

Back to the question, yes holds revs longer, to red line. Thats it!

Some firmwares seem to lock out 4th when in Sport, so its banging on the rev limiter at 129mph (and you think you've blown it!).  Certainly v9 firmware on GS820 ecu does not suffer this limitation. Apparently.

Most petrol gearbox firmwares allow car to redline if you're on the kickdown switch.

This is great fun .. however .. a word of warning ........

Do NOT have the MID set to "instantaneous consumption" whilst doing this... it only leads to angst ... :(

Yep. The truth is much worse than that. Worst case of a 3.2 generating 218 BHP means that it'll be devouring fuel at a rate of very roughly a litre a minute. As it goes through 30MPH it'll be doing 2 MPG. 4MPG at 60, etc... When it reaches its' top speed of 149, it'll be doing 9.9 miles per gallon. Heck, almost into double figures.

It will only be generating peak power as it hits 6,000 RPM, of course, so it's not quite as bad.. Makes you think though. :o

Time to put the damn calculator away.

thats one thing i haven't used yet, bloody kickdown is enough. I use the "S" on the cavalier all the time as the kickdown isn't that good.
i have  had the cavalier lock up 4th with "S" on and foot buried in the floor at approx 115mph and it was still pulling :o
