Check the ATF level NOW. Leaving it like this if the ATF is low will shag the gearbox pretty quickly.  Probably already too late.

Going up hill is going to cause the remaining fluid to run to the back of the sump, thus causing it to suck air. :(

I'd top the fluid up (with the engine runnning) before driving it again and hope you've caught it in time. If it behaves itself afterwards, change the fluid so the burnt stuff is removed.

Where abouts on the gearbox is the ATM plug located?

PS.  Forgot to mention.    Its the Emissions Control Warning light that comes on and not the AutoBox light.   This resets after a few short journeys, however comes on again after each new juddering issue.

In this case, you are probably looking at an engine problem rather than a gearbox problem with luck.

I'd check the autobox fluid anyway. Filler / level plug should be on the side of the larger of the two gearbox sumps, driver's side IIRC.

Howto here:http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

Doesn't mention filler plug location.

On to the engine problem. It's worth getting the codes read. The emissions light will have resulted in some codes being stored in the engine ECU so I would find someone with a code reader to get them read and see what it's been complaining about.

Bugger,  Jacked the car up and tried to get the Autobox filler plug open.

Sodding thing won't budge, even after a good dose of WD40.

Next I couldn't get the car off of the Axle Stand, as the weight of it had pressed both the stand and the Jack at least .5 inch into the driveway.

Why couldn't they design the damn thing to accept Gearbox topups from "the top".  And who the hell designed the jack.  Its an abomination.

Thinking about it, I recently got Kwik-s**t to replace the CATS and ever since it sounds as though the exhaust is blowing when cold.

Perhaps a bad ( incomplete ) fitting.....?

Any idea what would be the cost of an Autobox Oil change? given that I cant get the plug off?

PS... Thanks to all for assisting.

I'd try a bit of plus gas on the filler plug. Spray it each day for a few days and have another go.

Good gearbox fluid is about 20 quid + shipping per 5 litres from Opie oils using the newly established OOF discount. :y Ordered some myself today.

I believe a filter and sump gaskets are about 30 quid although you could clean out the old filter and use sealent instead.

It would be good to get the plug off first to establish if it's worth it by topping up though.

I agree it's stupid that the gearbox oil is not more accessible. Encourages neglect and that doesn't do the boxes any good :'(

Have you checked the spark plug wells to make sure they are dry, I've just had similar symptoms (juddering/lack of power) which turned out to be plug wells full of water.
Obviously the autobox fluid needs checking as well, and if its not been done recently replacing.

Thanks, I'll try both in my lunch break tomorrow.

Living in rented accomodation its quite difficult to start jacking up cars and hammering away at car bits in front of your LandLady.

I really do not want to have to write of this car, as it has been over the last 6 years, an escape from my blood sucking Ex.

She got the house.  I got the car.

Whilst working freelance its also been a bed for the night.

And beside all that, GM designed an elegant car.   And I see nothing
capable or affordable for that I would want.

I think I have it sussed.  Driving home from work last night it did the usual judder stuff however this time I pulled over and sat it in neutral.

Needless to say the engine juddered all over the place but this time the exhaust sounded to be blowing badly.

I got the CAT replaced approx 3 months ago at KwikFit.

Next day, the exhaust sounded as though it was blowing, but only at cold.

I know this cannot be the case as the entire system has now been renewed. My only thought is that Kwik Fit didnt put it together correctly.

Anyhoo, recently the car has been losing power and the engine juddering on occasion with the emissions control warning light coming on.

The blowing sound is now quite loud.

My question is, would the engine lose power if the exhaust was blowing due to bad fitting at the CAT?

Also, if I remember rightly there were two flexijoints in the exhaust, and after kwikfit, there is now only one.

A known problem with exhausts is them internally failing and blocking up with the wirewool stuff used to make the silencers.

If yours starts to misbehave after a semi-fixed period of time, it might just be the system is blocked and it takes that time to build up enough back-pressure to cause problems.

I'd be inclined to disconnect the exhausts and check for free-flow of exhaust gases....

just a thought ...

Take it back to quickfit and explain that there is a fault in their system, according to vauxhall.  Upto QF to then examine and repair, if under warranty??

I think back to KwikFit as their "repair" is only  months old and it should have 1 years warranty....

What's the mileage on the car?

As said, does it go OK if you shift gears manually?

Are you able to read fault codes?

Did you check autobox ATF level?

I am thinking that autobox ATF change might be in order....
