how about saving some money
when you need the roar
go in an angry voice roooooooarrrrr
then dont do it when you want a quiet ride

but on a serious note vauxhall cars are renound for screwing the sensors if you fit a kn and alike
unlike my last car please dont laugh (a mondeo v6) that had a kn71i on it ,the only difference was 2bhp so wouldnt feel any improvement,
pain in the arse in the summer because of heat soak even with cold air feed, far to loud on a motorway, but good in town
so my own opinion is fit a panel filter get the bhp without all the trouble

i want my v6 to be as quiet as possible, that way you know when there is a prob as the noise changes from a sweet hum to a ratle and unhopefully a clunk. :y

OK -- liking loud cars doesn't make you a chav, liking quiet cars doesn't make you an OAP ....

Not all mammals are elephants .. but all elephants are mammals .....

Unfortunately, in this world, labels stick, rightly or wrongly

Personally I like a nice, serene, quiet drive (til I get my free bus pass). Trouble is, every time I stop at a junction I think I have stalled  :-[

The panel filter on the Omega is huge for a 200 BHP engine so it offers no noticeable restriction. The sensible way to tune an engine is to modify the parts that are the weakest link first. That means the exhaust manifolds, unfortunately. It's not always the easiest bits to bolt on that give you noticeable power gains, despite what the aftermarket tuning parts manufacturers will have you believe.

The induction system will have been designed not only for low noise but also to augment the breathing of the engine at low RPM. Put a shorter intake tract on it and you will lose low RPM torque and, if the original system has been designed well, you won't gain much if anything at higher RPM on an otherwise standard engine. It's not worth losing that low down torque unless you're going to get serious gains at higher RPM by fitting hotter cams, ported heads, etc, IMHO, especially on a heavy car like an Omega.

I have to say, modifying to increase noise alone seems a bit pointless. This comes from someone who is not averse to a bit of noise from time to time. My "other car" does tend to grunt a bit but largely for packaging reasons.  ;)

Mine's a London Pride, please, and a packet of cheese and onion crisps.

Yeah that was new to me as i have never worked on a Vauxhall with standard induction before. From what i have learned on here that is caused by oiled filters, so to avoid any issues, dont buy an oiled filter (such as K&N panal filer) personally from experiance, i would recommend the pipercross foam filter.

If you really wanted it quieter up front, you could try insulating the inside of the airbox with sound deading material (avaliable from any audio retailer or from B&Q in the plumbing department for half the price). Ive never tried it on a road car but seen it done on competition cars to get the induction noise level down.

Hehe

I have one of each

My Elite is silky smooooooth and quiet.

Yet

My GLS has a speaker attachment (Busted backbox) that is controlled by my right foot.  In town it has the V6 gurgle and in full flight it sreams faster faster at me.  If I modded the intake take box I would hear it more at fiull throttle low revs, and less at high revs as the exhaust speaks volumes.  But I likes it.

Am neither a Chav or an OAP.  I am simply, me, myself and I.  I wear a few hats, it just depends on my mood on that particular day. ;D ;D

When I sort the exhaust though (Soon) I am considering a NOS kit,  I like the thought of the "Stealth Surprise"  and hearing the comment.    S**t what the F**K was that, so the less noise the bigger the surprise.   hehe. ;D ;D :y

Just to put things in perspective here's my two pence worth.

I think there's nothing better than to hear a well tuned engine or a V6/V8 gurgling away or producing a great sound track at high revs but there has to be control as to how much noise they produce. Can you imagine what it would be like to have thousands of cars howling away if you lived anywhere near a road. So, have a car that makes a great sound but within reason.

On the other hand, in motor racing at a proper racing cicuit, the louder the better. It's one of the reasons I love motorsport so much. :y

As said, it's all about getting things into perspective. :y

Agreed .. but at motorsport they don't tune for noise as the OP asked .. they tune for driveability  .. Power, response etc etc, the noise is a byproduct.

The OP wants to tune for noise, this will probably result in LESS power and certainly less efficiency.

I have my views on tuning for noise anyway, but they are not for here .. :)

No offence mate, but most here would rather have reduced noise, not more. Cheap crappy after market exhausts and cats have generated loads of complaints from us abouts noise. Drives you mad after not very long at all. It sounds to me like you've got the original setup so my advice is look after it and don't mess with it. There's nothing cool about a chaved up Mig (or a chaved up Corsa for that matter)

IMO people who consider anyone who drives a loud car to be chav is a seriously narrow minded individual who has to learn how to have their own opinion and not have there life led by the media. in other words get a life!  :y

Have you ever heard the saying "if its to loud your too old"?   ::)

My omega is as loud as all hell! (im not a "chav" just not a OAP either!) the previous owner has completely removed the bottom part of the airbox and cable tied / taped the filter on, never caused me any problems and makes changing the filter really easy lol.

On idle and light throttle there isnt much diffrence, but when the pedal hits the floor it roars like a beast!

And yes i am more than aware that it will suck in warm air when the car is standing still, but how often do you need full power from a standstill? it will lose some low end torque but gain some high end horses, which suits my driving style.

You are missing my point. I just don't understand why anyone would want to mod a car simply to make it loud. I see it all the time but mostly on gutless Corsas and Saxos. What is that person really trying to say? Is it "Hey look at me everyone, I'm a  ........." or is it "Hey everyone, I don't care about you, I'm going to be a nuisance" or is it something else?

I've always enjoyed driving cars hard and I'm far from being old enough for a bus pass. Deliberately moding any car (especially a Mig) just to make it louder seems a reduculous thing to do IMHO
