Lazy door motor and rear high level brake light?
« on: 21 July 2008, 12:27:01 »

Hi everyone,

The last time I posted I commented on the fact that my infra-red remote opened all my doors, but the driver side door sometimes refused to open.

One of the posts said that it was a lazy door motor, is there a cure for this or do I need to replace for new?

Also, I have won a high level brakelight and trim on ebay from vendor by the name of JPAYNE who sell on there quite a lot, and who as it happens provided me with the link on his advert for here initially!

Is this an easy to install item - as in, is the loom already present (I don't have one in mine at the moment), or is loom splicing the order of the day?

Last question, I have seen the remote keys with the key and buttons on the one fob, can I get one of these to work on my '95 cdx or is it not as siple as that? - it seems clumsy having the separate IR and key when you could have it on the one fob! (if not, i'll make a case to take the key and the IR and post it on the forum if anyones interested!)

On the plus side, I have won a sunroof motor and switch, so hopefully that should work soon as well!  :)

Motor - replacement. Lubing mech and rods may help get a bit more life from motor, but if its tired, its on its way

That seller is Markey Mark here ;)

Loom will not be present on a 95 car.

The type with fib integrated to key are RF type, you say yours is IR, so won't work

Thanks TB,

I thought it might be the case on all counts, so...

REAR HIGH LEVEL LIGHT - Just splice and join to the Brake light circuit I take it?

Key fob - I'll machine one up to accept the two - if anyones interested I'll make a few.

Door Motor - can you get aftermarket pattern part or are you restricted to Vx dealerships? (i'd rather this than a second hand part that could fail also).

Thanks.

Brake light - not sure how the check control (if fitted) will cope. Someone else I'm sure will advise.

Door Motor - not seen pattern type before.

Key blanks - http://shop.omegaowners.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=13 - but not sure how you will get IR bit to fit.

Sorry, didn't realise they were LEDs.  Should be fine with check control :)

Cool!

You're on my favourite sellers list already... somehow I get the feeling that you and my pocket are going to become the best of friends!

My first mission is to make it all mechanically sound, so i'm going to do the belts and fluids.

Since the TC and ABS lights both come on, i'm fist going to look to clean the wheel sensors as they've never been cleaned, before I change the module, and at the same time look to check the brake pad sensors are all sound, a paintshop mate of mine has said he'll do the stonechips and rust spots for a nice little cash number...

following that i can set to work on the cosmetics inside!

I was looking at perhaps a beige leather interior when one comes up, and updateing the ICE.  I read your post about the CD OEM head units, and perhsps I should stick to one of these and just look to update the satnav CD (don't use it very much so don't want anything to grand - so the OEM makes do), and perhaps look at the phone capability.

I know there's aftermarket stuff, but if the car's got a loom integral, seems daft not to make use of it.

And then, see TB about a dignostic checkover!

... restoration's a lovely thing!

I just fitted a high level brake light to my traktor, it is a genuine VX bought on e-bay & it has incandescent bulbs - not LEDs!

 Hi,
Don't, when fitting a rear upper brake light, you also have to make sure you've got the cut out for the light in the black surround that goes around the edge of the window?

If you dismantle the lock motor, you will find two microswitches inside. One will probably have a slightly high contact resistance on the normally closed contact, if so, change it.

Try not to bend the tags of the new switch, that can increase it's contact resistance.

Thanks Mike, i'll try that.  Are the switches standard fare that you can get at maplins etc. or can you get them from the Vx dealerships?

I use Omron SS 5GLD, from Farnell, order code 1201422. Check it's the one with thin tags, not wide tags with holes, if that makes sense.

The tags don't line up exactly and it's much easier to adjust the thin ones.

That's odd on mine you just twist the black holders counter-clockwise & remove then with the bulbs in them
