Yup, I have owned an Ex-plod 3.0 V6 Auto estate and two 2.5 V6 manual saloons.

And when it comes to acceleration, there is nothing between them but, the 2.5 gives considerably better mpg!

I strongly suspect the better MPG is due to the manual box, but otherwise I agree with Mark on that.

In terms of performance its difficult to judge but the 3L does feel pacier to me.  May not be real though.. :-/

2.5man is the best option if you do lots of pootling around in town.  As for fast motorway work, my 2.5 is no slouche.

I previously had a 1999 2.5 CD manual estate and then changed it for a 3.2 MV6 auto estate. Jeez, what a difference in power! :o Press the S button on the gearshift and it flies. 8-) Would have preferred it to have been manual but have got quite used to "lazy" driving. ::)
The downside is that is a fair bit thirstier than the 2.5, but that's only to be expected.

I had before 2.5 v6 cdx manual  20-22 mpg round town
same driving 3.0 auto 17.5-19.5 round town
but 3.0 feel faster from 30mph with sport mode and kick down
and hard to fund 2.5 v 6 with mv6 spec

2.5 manual should, day to day, give low 30s mpg (against 3.0l autos low/mid 20s).

0-60 similar, once about 50ish, 3.0l is noticibly more anxious....

Sorry - a bit OT but I came across the consumption figure for my old 2.0 last night. It was a bit of a dog on tickover but ran ok otherwise. 29.0 mpg.

MV6 3.0, over about 2,000 random miles. 26.8 mpg.

P.S. Actually, it was a lot of a dog on tickover....

My 2.0 Auto gives about 31mpg - but do wonder how thirsty a 2.5 Auto is..perhaps I should have had a 2.5 manual instead!  I fancied a slushbox one for commuting, though.

LPG nearly finished, so 50mpg equivalent is looming, but should have got a 2.5 and LPG'd that instead!

Sorry for going slightly OT..
