You say fuel smell!  Could be that it's over fuelled and drownded the cats, the lambda sensors may tell the ecu that there is too much fuel and cut the supply to the injectors!....

Try starting with the throttle held fully open, this will cut the fuel to the injectors too and allow loads of air through to dry it all out....

That's just what I'd try first :y

Thanks Dave for your input :).

Does anyone else have any ideas as to why it would start and run fine one day and two days later won't start again?

As for the immobilser, is there any chance it can stick on without any flashing ECU light as this is the impression it gives when trying to start(not even a cough of life or firing)?

        Thanks,
                  Pete.

Before posting anymore you need to do a paperclip test :y

I just wonder if there's a code 19?

  Hi all,
Right, i have now done a paper clip test and it comes up with the code 145(Immobiliser Wrong Signal).

I misread it at first and thought it was 45 but when i checked it again i realised i'de missed the 1 ::).

I then tried to start the car with the throttle wide open as someone had suggested(but this was when i thought it was code 45)and she just turned over without firing until i removed my foot off the throttle at which point she started.

I let it run for a couple of minutes at about 1000 revs. and when i released the throttle it just cut out and would not restart again, by this time the battery was nearly flat so took it off and recharged it.

I replaced the battery and once again did the clip test and found that it was 145 and not 45. Thought i'de give it a go and she started first time at which point a ran her upto temperature while i had her going and did an oil and filter change :).

She now started every time and when i left her i left the battery on but will it start tomorrow :-/.

What can be done about code 145 in case the problem persists?

Any help would be great as this is doing my head in :-?

                                Pete.

I personally suspect you have an injector sticking open which I would think will cure itself.

It wont start on full throttle because an injection system does not fire the injectors when throttle is WOT and cranking!

   Hi Mark,
If it's an Injector problem why is it giving code 145 on the clip test and why the intermittent starting problems :question.

It will be throwing fuel in at the wrong times, flooding, etc..

the 145 may go once it consistently starts ok. It's not a code to worry about...

The 145 may be old, and never seems to clear from paperclip test...

  Thanks James,
If it is an Injector that's stuck will it more likely clear on a run?

I had the Injectors professonally cleaned by the way ::).
