How hard is a 2.5TD headgasket change

Swmbo had just "Aquired" a Tractor with a dead headgasket,

Having never done a BMW Tractor, how hard is it?

pig of a job.

I think!!! the sump needs to come off... cause of the chains.

HD failure would be rear, i suspect its more a cracked head...

TB is the man to ask, as the resident tractor owner

Having seen the one on his garage floor, I can confirm that the only real hard bit looks like the chain setup...

its not especially difficult, sump doesent need to come off. the top chain is locked by a pin and the bottom held by the other if you know what i mean, you need to ask TB nicely if you can borrow the special tool i made out of his garage door opener to push the tensioner back enough to put the locking pin in, :y setting up tdc is a must as is marking the cam pulley as they are friction fit and no markings on them so tippex is your friend here, thats after you have unbolted the injector pipes and got them out of the way of course!!

its more time consuming than difficult!! :y

What ever happened to keyed cam shafts & sprockets? My diseasal Astra is the same friction/taper fit - I just left well alone & marked up the belt (or that's what I did the second time around .... I found out after I'd taken the cam belt off, fortunately before I took the cam sprocket off though!)

the taper fit goes back as far as the mk2 cavalier diesels & i always used indelible markers for timing marks as tippex can chip off easily.

forgot to say you need to find out which hg you have to order one!!!
2 or 3 hole!!! you can see the one fitted but its difficult!!! :y

It's a diesel thing then?  :-/
CIH engines from MkI Cavaliers through to Senator Bs had keyed cam shafts.

I have a TD crank/cam lock kit here.  Need to improvise on the tensioner, and no, you cannot use my garage door opener (as destroyed made by Omegatoy).

The head is 'kin heavy, and not the easiest due to bulkhead.
