Will Plastic Metal Fix This??
« on: 23 September 2008, 20:35:32 »

As some of you are aware, Myself and Swmnbo have aquired a number of miggies over the last 3 days.

Well to be honest, the tractor wasn't entirely her fault, but that's another story.

Tractor bought with "suspected HG failure"
After talking to a few people, I was warned about a cracked head, so this morning armed with spanners, sockets, off with the head.

Well after some "hmmm not done one before" but it looks easy, OFF CAME THE HEAD.

carried and sat on the undertray all gently, Gasket looks fine, ok cracked head, so lets look, and this is what myself and Fred117 found to start with.

That does not look good so back to the block and see what damage the lack of valve head has done to the Piston Crown.

OMG the look of absolute amazement fell on Freds face

Can you spot something missing?

Sorry, when we spoke earlier, I really didn't mean to laugh. Honest ;D

I can see what you mean about the head now, that will take the value off it.

As said earlier, when these BMW units fail mechanically, its usually either expensive or terminal.  Though normally the conrod makes it all the way through the block, not just into water jacket ;D

Still, I know you have the resources and the skills to mend that (in a roundabout way) :y

If you need a hand, let me know.

Further to all the talk about the disintergrated piston, is there much damage Jue (maybe a very silly question) to the cylinder itself, let alone con rod, crankshaft, crankshaft bearings, and head / valves / cams?? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Only just seen the pictures .... work wouldn't let me see! Quite spectacular!
If the engine is BMW derived, would it be not easier to find a basic lump from a BMW car?
