looks like mayo in oil filler cap.caused by long filler neck (condensation) and short journeys.
make sure it has a weekly motorway blast, nothing to panic about. :y

If it's a V6, not likely to be a concern.

If it's a 4cyl then I agree with TB, might be HG.

Any other symptoms?

HG is not hard on the 2.0 / 2.2 if you take your time, not hard at all.

I would encourage you to have a go yourself :y

The woodruff key on the camshaft itself?

alot of short journeys? Worth changing the oil and see if it shows similar signs. Make sure its as thick and colour is good. Not milky. Is it loosing water? Change antifreeze according to the service schedule. If left it turns acidic and eats the hg.
Have to say if the car gets regular trips over 15 mins
Then it dont0look good.

simply stating that changing a HG is not a simple job for a novice who may not have a lot of tools and could get themselves into trouble particularly if they have no mechanical knowledge.

would you recomend someone "to have a go" on your car? ::)

best of luck :y
