2.5td Chip
« on: 23 February 2009, 17:50:39 »

Heloo guys, i`m giving very serious thought to chipping the old tractor now that i`ve put all the electrical faults to bed (at last)!!! I`ve seen lots of threads and advice on this issue on the forum - just wondering if anyones had any experience with this company http://www.chiptuning.at  They`re making all kinds of easy-fit extra power with low cost and low risk claims. Seams far too : good to be true - or is it?? To be honest i`ve never heard of a plug`n`play chip system before - but if it saves pulling out the ECU and not having to search the attic for me soldering iron i`m all for it!!  :D :D

I run a chip in my 2.5TD, as its rubbish without.

It makes the car much better, more drivable imho.

If you have an auto, your gearbox won't take it though, so its a non starter if you don't have a manual (unless you want to fit a stronger autobox)

ar35, yup.  You need to reuse the torque convertor and bellhousing from your ar25 though.

The chips themselves are plug in, no real problem if you have an ecu with socketed chips.

Got bored with your link, crap site, lost interest in 5s, sorry

lol most of them are easy to fit as they just increase the fuel pressure,
which puts the injector pumps under severe strain and usually 'dangle berries's it within 10k!!! thsts why they are so easy to fit! and even worse to fit them you have to remove the ECU to identify the wires to connect them to!!!!!

Having just chipped one myself here are the good points using the mentioned chip above.

Before - Fuel economy 25-30mpg around town, 45mpg on a long steady run

After - Fuel economy - 35-40mpg around town, 60mpg+ on a long steady run. Infact i managed just under 65mpg on a 200mile trip from cold over the weekend, but i was driving like a grandad.

Power is greatly increased especially low down. As far as i know the AR35 will simply plug and play, i think they have the same internals as the AR25 just better quality materials. If you go for the manual option then budget for a 3.0v6clutch.

The hardest part is finding someone who will fit it. The boards are pretty old fashioned and tough, but you still need a decent der-soldering station. I got a local computer repair to do it for 30 quid but it took a lot of ringing around before i could find somewhere.

Good luck

Mmm, so as long as i can source a box with a decent mechanic attached i`m sorted!!!lol There`s a couple of decent vx breakers around these parts so the hunt is on - any pointers as to cost of a box guys?? Also it may sound like a daft question but how`d you tell if a donor box is sound, other than driving the thing before its removed???  :-?

the gboxes [ar35] come up on here regularly, wouldnt like to quote prices though but some scrapyards are a bit "keen" on charging the earth, i would say anything between £70-£100 is a fair price but believe me itll be money well spent!, but dont forget a change of pants when the chip is fitted ;D you wont believe the difference :y

worth it, and not bad in snow (if you drive sensibly)

Chip it fellas - you'll wonder why you've not done it sooner!

Fuel consumption on mine is a (proven) constant 33mpg - no matter how or where it's driven (not tried it with the caravan in tow yet).
Several other members also get similar consumption figures.
