Hi all ,
Having a real problem whereby the drivers door keeps opening whilst driving. I have adjusted the catch on the door pillar several times but after a while it keeps opening which is a real pain.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

you'll need to investigate/replace the catch in the door.

Happened to me a while back, latching mechanism was broken and had to be replaced. IIRC about £100 for the mechanism + 1 hour labour

Blimey that sounds scary   I dont think I would like to be driving that , maybe worth trying it with the door locked and see what happens until you get chance to investigate

I would try looking in the for sale section and asking someone on there if they have one would be much cheaper

How easy is it to replace the lock mechanism on the door ?
Would it be worth getting one from a scrap yard ?

Yes   You will obviously need to take the door card off to get to it buts thts no big job , its fairly simple to take the catch out . and if you get one from a scrap yard you will have to take it out so anyway so you will get some practice at the same time

and it won't matter if you bu66er it up!   Just move on to the next car ...... they were thin on the ground though when I looked last week end.  :-/

Have you tried welding it up .

A less permanent solution is to open the window by about 1", together with window on the back door.  A piece of cord passed throught the 2 windows and knotted will keep the door shut while driving yet when undone will allow easy access/exit.  Alternatively you can use a cable tie which can be cut to allow exit. A less permanent solution is to open the window by about 1", together with window on the back door.  A piece of cord passed throught the 2 windows and knotted will keep the door shut while driving yet when undone will allow easy access/exit.  Alternatively you can use a cable tie which can be cut to allow exit. Yeah remember when I bought my TR4A in Bedford many years ago - it had been wrapped round a lamp post and drivers door was banana shaped with no glass in it. Had to hold it shut to on drive home - very exciting as I managed to hit 110 mph on the A6 with the big ends knocking like hell and massive wheel wobble.  (Knew the problems when I bought it and totally rebuilt all mechs etc.  Done the bodywork - it was brg (green) but resprayed it red as this made my thingy 1" longer )

its not even a open and shut case! try dave marshall i think he has some front doors off a silver elite hope that helps
