OK, spot on Mark (unfortunatly)

The cable to where it clips to the cover has got caught on aux belt tensioner and ripped it in half!!!  >:(

Does this end go to the sensor or does it go to the wiring loom??

Well I can only blame myself on this one as I put her together and must have not checked it.

Just need to work out if its the section that goes to the sensor or if its the section that goes into the wiring loom. If it goes into the wiring loom then Im worried!  :'(

If it's left hand side, thats the sensor side.

Prices for new sensor as follows:

Main stealer
Up to engine number 08137540 - £42.90
From engine number 08137541 - £73.00

Trade Club
Up to engine number 08137540 - £33.45
From engine number 08137541 - £56.57

All prices are plus VAT

I'd personally just repair the cable, theres nothing special about screened cable at all.

Well atleast there is some good news from it.

I was suprised when it did not make the car go into safe mode. Is this usual or am I likely to find that this happens when I get in the car in the morning  :-/

That will be the sensor part of the lead, the main loom section only appears outside the cable tray for aroun 50-75mm.

They can be soldered together successfuly (2 wires and a screen)

What is a knock sensor as they get mentioned quite a bit on here.

Ignore that, the link says it all. I wouldn't have guessed it as a microphone though.
