Hi,

Anyone know of any decent brake upgrades for the front of the Omega?

Do Vauxhall Monaro calipers/discs fit, or Pontiac GTO is the same car in the States, I think?

Is this for track?  If so, I suspect you'll get away with existing calipers etc, just need track discs and pads (obviously this isn't ideal for roads then)

depends how much performance your looking for. in my experience trade club pads are poor and give a wooden feel( Although others seem quite happy with them ) so i have fitted oe pads (jurid made it seems) and am now very happy with them. bloody should de at the price vx charge

Probably still would want something better for track use....

Yep, thanks, we've used the car on track for about 3 years now and whilst the brakes are ok'ish, they are not really the best....

Even with Police spec pads (which Vauxhall supply to the Police for the Omega jobcars, and perform better at higher temps), and also running DOT5 brake fluid and braided lines, you end up with a long peddle after a couple of laps.....  so, not ideal.

Hence the questions about the standard Monaro or GTO calipers fitting the Omega.

On my road car (04 plate ex-Police Omega) I have groved discs, standard Vauxhall pads and DOT5 fluid and they protest strongly after a few miles of hard use....

Anyone upgraded apart from disc/pads?

There was a new full set of Monaro brakes (calipers the lot!) on ebay a few weeks back, only about £300 as they were taken off the the 'factory' upgrade after build.- can't see why they wouldn't fit. Can somebody confirm or deny??

...or I suppose Lotus Carlton (Group C) set up could be interesting if you could get hold of them.

Monaros have a different PCD, not sure how that would affect the discs. Perhaps they'd just slip straight on, no probs, but actually theres 4mm of difference, or something stupid like that!?

Almost definite that LC front discs will go straight on, though.

Boo Hiss - just have to get some Monaro / HSV wheels then! Postage from Oz is only £450 a set!!!!

Not too worried about the discs, could continue to use the Omega discs, really want to know if the Monaro/GTO calipers will fit the hubs? Therefore, end up with a better spec caliper that hold a larger friction area - i.e. bigger pad.

I have heard good reports about EBC discs and pads, and they fit straight on.

I would imagine that the calipers are fairly standard throughout the range, but the mounting brackets will differ.

Does the MV6 use the same wheels and brakes as the Elite? I understand the front brakes on the Elite are bigger than the CD/CDX et al.

It might even be worth looking at Vauxhall van brake parts. Big GM doesn't make different parts unless it really has to.

I don't know whether or not Monaro components will fit an Omega, but I thought I'd make you aware that many Monaro owners are less than impressed with the standard Monaro CV8 brakes anyway, and that VXR and AP upgrades are popular.

Check the Monkfish Performance website if you want an idea of prices for the components.

I have standard discs and calipers on my Monaro CV8 with Performance Friction pads (factory pads are not good) which is fine for my needs, though I don't take liberties with them and suspect my Omega would probably perform a better emergency stop.

In summary, if you are going to drive your Omega hard, standard CV8 Monaro brakes are probably not the way to go.

Do the Omega wishbones have the irmy brake coolers on? If not could you rob some, or design some for the omega?

For those not seen them, they are a plastic rectangular tube with an angled down bit at the front to pick the air up and an angled up bit at the back to blow the air on the vents in the discs. In veccy land these just clip to the bottom of the wishbone.

Just an idea, although I can see why you would want better calipers.

Thanks V^Rich, my pal has a Monaro and his brakes are fine, even when pushed hard, way better than the Omega anyway. I am aware of Monkfish (due to my mate having a Monaro) and I am also aware that an AP brake upgrade from then is probably worth more than the car!

The standard Monaro calipers are 'better' than the Omega, it is a bigger caliper/pad and therefore larger friction area and better braking....

Oh well, i'll keep trying....

one of the US members has done an upgrade on his Catera.  I think he used 6 Pot Corvette calipers.
