What engines would fit?
« on: 26 July 2009, 16:42:56 »

If I wanted to put something a little more interesting in the MV6, what engines would fit without chopping the car about?

Any reasonably priced V8's - or others?

Would a Straight 6 engine from a senator etc fit the existing engine mounts with an AR35?

Senator S6 engines do fit, but the wiper motors get in the way, so a single wiper conversion is needed.

Lotus 3.6 Twin Turbo would be a nice fit.

Maybe a Monaro 6.0 V8?

Sourcing them won't be cheap though

Don't want anything crazy - just something a little different perhaps!

I don't have a huge budget for it, I was thinking a S6 Senny motor if it would bolt in  ;D

Think is, to put a volvo engine in - It wouldn't fit the mounts etc - I'm not good enough to start modifying the bodywork and drivetrain to take other engines...  :-/

....but -no cambelt/breathers that need cleaning often/leaky cam covers/HBV/dispack etc,and you would have room for a turbo if you were so inclined. :)

It's going to take a lot of work whatever you do so only worth the bother for something that will transform the car IMHO.

V8 or bust, in other words. Forget straight 6s.

Whatever you do, you will need to fabricate engine mounts, exhausts and deal with incompatible engine electronics, perhaps have the propshaft altered. Not a sunday afternoon project, but potentially a rewarding one if you're prepared to put in some time.

Senator engines are too heavy  :-/
Get a V8, but Martin why not a 2.3 T5 Volvo engine  ::)

Volvo engine is an interesting plan, IMHO. Saw a westfield running one of those (actually a Duratec I5 2.5 Turbo ex-focus ST). Over 300 BHP. Very nice but would be plenty of work.

Why not stick a supercharger on the 3.0? Would imagine a kit is available and im sure with your spanner skills should be a fairly straightforward install?

Would be cheaper than a V8 mod too?  :question

Yeah that is an issue, mind you a 2.4 T5 with the 6 speed manual what would that go like especially with RWD  :o Or if money was no object a 3.5 diesel out of a 335/535d 286 Bhp of twin turbo diesel fun  8-)
