there is a nice dial to set the temp to exactly what you want, 19/20/21 degrees and so on.

If you like the old style so much, sell it and buy the older one.
I agree that the dial is nice. Unfortunately the control system behind it is rubbish.
It takes too much notice of the outside sensor and the solar sensor and not enough notice of the space I am sat in. I have done a lot of miles in it in the last 3 months (approaching 6000). On long journeys where I have started on warm afternoon and finished in the dead of night it is noticeable that it increases the temperature in the car as the outside temperature drops. Even more noticeable is how it turns the cooling up if the sun land on the solar sensor.

I have to say I also find the climate system on the facelift very annoying at times with a certain amount of uncontrolability despite having had the climate upgrade. I usually have it set both sides to 22C  and if the outside temp is around 12C it blows out warm air for a while but as soon as there's bright sunshine it starts blowing cold air and I have to uncrease the temp settings to compensate. I also find that the fans speed has a mind of its own even when auto is switched off, and demisting is crap unless the A/C is on.

Did the climate system have many software updates? Mine is a 2003 Elite (so I assume has the final software version) and the fan does 'go ballistic' quite frequently.  >:(

Yes, the climate updates make a big bifference to usability  :y
Is there a way that I can determine which update my climate system has? or is tech2 the only way of interrogating it?

tech2 is the only way.

iirc Kevin found another parameter you can adjust he says further improves things, can't remember what though...
