Omega 2.5 DTI Y25DT - ESP ?
« on: 09 January 2010, 19:11:27 »

Hello,

I'm going to buy Omega 2.5 DTI Y25DT 2002 Automatic. So i have few question about it. The answer of the first one i searched whole week around the net and i received various answers. I believe here is the place to ask :)

1. I wonder is there ESP system on this particular model? I've read an article of GM's

"Omega: New Common Rail Turbodiesel with Five-Speed Automatic

A large number of modifications will further increase the appeal of Opel's top-of-the-line Omega. The most important is the introduction of a common-rail turbodiesel rated at 110 kW/150 hp. The smooth-running 2.5 DTI, 24V, direct-injection, inline six-cylinder engine has plenty of torque (maximum 300 Nm between 1750 and 3000 rpm) and low fuel consumption ( 7.6 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers ). The Omega 2.5 DTI's top speed is 208 km/h and it accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 10.5 seconds. From November, the Omega 2.5 DTI will be available with a new five-speed automatic transmission.

All Omega six-cylinder models will have ESP as a standard feature from November. As of now, they will be distinguished by a special honeycomb grille and a larger Opel badge. Next year, a DVD entertainment system for the rear passengers will complete the long list of extras available for the Omega station wagon. The system, developed by Opel and Johnson Controls and also available for the Zafira, can play DVDs ( D igital V ersatile D iscs) and audio CDs ( C ompact D iscs) and also has connections for video games and a camcorder."

Some guys told me that this model don't have ESP.

2. In connection with the first question there is a button on the dash over that one for the luggage-carrier. The symbol is something like triangle with car inside and wheel track (zig zag) when it is pressed on the panel shows the same symbol in yellow. Is that button for the ESP or it is for the TC only.

3. in general how can i recognize the presence of ESP system on the car?

4.Last one ;) i intend eventually to chip this engine. Will it be a problem the higher torque and hp (~170-180hp) for the automatic. I read here a opinion of TheBoy and he wrote that chipping automatic will be a problem for the gearbox... i wonder please help

Thank you in advance :) and sorry for the bad English.

Regards,

Hi Borvass, and welcome. Your English is perfect :y

I cannot answer your question, as UK Vauxhalls, ESP was always an option.  European Opels had different specs to our UK Vauxhalls.

10x guys :)

I thought that they have different specs too. Is that valid also about the type of automatic gearbox? And will be a problem to chip it..i mean will i eventually damage the gearbox with that?

I would need to check, but seem to recall that 5 speed auto is rated to 400Nm.

Not sure how easy it is to 'chip' that engine - I suspect it may be a reflash/reprogram rather than a 'chip'.  Some of the BMW forums may be better for info about the engine itself.

Could you not convert it to RHD using a donor facelift?

@TheBoy - i will be thankful if you can find information. I tried to google it but... :/ An, yes my mistake i mean reflash/reprogram

@Omegatoy - hmm you are right on first look i can't see even 1 in mobile.de ... here in Bulgaria we have one - strange...
I suppose the tuning will be OK i know a guy who can make it. I personally don't understand in deep the tuning/programing. It will be great if you ask your friend about the gearbox :)

It's a pleasure to communicate with you guys  :y

Hope that helps

yeap it help - i google it and the first result - bingo - Thanks

The 5L40-E is available in either "M82" (rear-wheel drive) or "MX5" (all-wheel drive) versions. It is able to handle vehicles up to 4000 lb (1814 kg) GVWR. The final drive ratio is 3.42:1, 3.73:1, or 3.91:1. The 5L40-E is designed for 1.8–3.6 L engines with a maximum of 250 ft·lbf (340 N·m) of torque.

regarding to this site ( http://www.chiptuning-direct.dk/vauxhall/omega/vauxhall_omega_25_dti_150hp_/_110kw_cr_en.html ) that offer some kind of device (i will not use that) but lets say we achieve the same or similar result of 189HP and 378Nm i think it is better not to tune it what you say? I prefer to have healthy gearbox than the risk of broke in it :) Those +38Nm over the specified 340Nm for this box will be a problem for it right?

Have no experience of that box, we don't get that in the UK.

Certainly the earlier 2.5TDs we have on a Ar25 (250Nm) tend to last about 120,000m.  And once chipped, about 100m :o :o :o

I'll definitely miss the chipping :) 10x

And the last unclear to me thing is that "mysterious"button Is that for sure for on/off the esp? Like you said there is a difference between UK Vauxhalls and the Opel, but i suppose that the button is the same or i am wrong?
