Tracking and tyres
« on: 28 January 2010, 15:32:03 »

Just been down to my local Tyre place as I had a slow puncture on the rear left ... turns out the tyre is worn all the way down on the inside

The shop reckon 4 new tyres and quoted £481.50 including front tracking does this sound a little pricey?...and is therea way top adjust the rear tracking?

It is a 2.5 elite slaoon btw

I would shop around mate, thats pretty expensive

I have an omega CDX but with 'elite' wheels ... I fit 225/16 tyres on...any brand...I pay £70 a corner

If I ever buy tyres I haggle a bit if I need tracking...it only takes 5 mins or so to track the front wheels and most tyre centres will throw it in if you buy a couple (or 4 tyres off them)

if not....walk away. There are lots of other tyre centres about who need your business

Take a look on ebay, then pay a fitter about £10 per wheel to fit and balance, £30 to track.

You can get 4 top spec Contis for under £350 delivered, my cheapo Triangle Talon Sport TR918s are £167.99 for 4 either fitted in Macclesfield or delivered...then pay to fit as above.

Most high street tyre places are pricey compared to doing this  :y

If your rubbing out the rear tyres on the inside then you have a serious alignment issue here, get your car to WIM at chesham and get Tony Bones to set the car up again and he can supply the tyres at very competitive prices to boot. dont let any one else touch your car as they have not got the experiance to deal with it properly. WIM= wheels in motion, google them for a phone /contact No. :y

Yes it can ,but you need to find someone who can do it properly and not some spotty youf in oily overalls  who puts the setting in the 'green' and relives you of a stonking amount of dosh, only to find in a few thousand miles that you need new tyres again. ::)

WIM the only place to go mate, i am in Mitcham and have made the relitivly short journey to them and they are the only place that will ever track any of my cars whatever they may be. you will get a discounted price if you mention OOF :y

It can. As others have said get over to WIM and Tony will carry out a full 4 wheel alignment and geometry check. WIM are part of Blackboots and will do a cracking deal on tyres while you're there. :y

Yep, WIM is the only place I will go: http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/

Took my previous Omega there and they put a new set of tyres on, changed the wishbones and sorted out the rear track rod ends.  Before all that work it wore a front tyre's inner shoulder down to the beading to the point where it deflated!

It used to dive for the kerb at all times.  Post-WIM it ran like a dream.  I was so impressed I took SWMBOs Focus there too.

Mention OOF and they'll do a deal.  Even better if you want tyres as they will price match Blackcircles.
