EASY ONE FOR YOU
« on: 31 January 2010, 19:37:42 »

finaly got the omega back on the road after changing oil cooler, hbv, plugs, plug leads, water pump, now, after driveing roughly twenty miles heater went cold and tempreture climed to 100 deg,am i right in thinking i have an air lock in heater matrix and if so can i get rid of it by running car to get warm then very carefully undo the heater pipe from hbv valve to expell air and yes i know hot water, any help would be great,by the way when i refilled i did squeeze the top and bottem rad pipes ,they both get hot too about the same temp.allso does it matter which way round the two pipes you connect on the two center breather pipe connectors on the black ecotec breather box on top dead center of plenium

check the level when its cooled down. They need topping up after a while on first refill. Surprised you didnt get a coolant warning.
System is self bleeding so dont take the cap off while its hot.

Have you flushed the oil from the rad as it may well be blocked, oil cooler failure usually results in the radiator becoming blocked, if so put  a litre of LOW FOAM washing LIQUID into the system and drive for a while to act like a washing m/c, then drain and refill to flush the crap and refil drain ect until the water is clean then refill with coolant and top up where nessasary.

Didnt see the oil cooler replacement. I had to junk my rad after mine failed as it just wouldnt clean. Was thinking as to why the heater starts warm and then cools down.

Give it a go. Sounds like the left overs from the cooler fail have moved and blocked the flow. Flush in the opposite direction to normal flow, but would also use some cleaning product afterwards (dishwasher tab) to try and break down the oil in the system. I personally wouldnt put any anti freeze in while you are trying to clean it, just dont leave it full of water if the forcast is for heavy frost.

Use 2 in mine and drove it for a couple of days like that but was after giving it a good few flushes on the drive to get the worst of the oil out. Then filled it, added tablets to header and drove it as normal. Followed buy few more flushes and then filled with 50/50 mix.
It did improve things, but not completly (still got hot around town) so in the end I changed the rad.

As for breathers, I dont think it matters which way round round you connect them, I wait to be corrected.
