there's no sound reason for fitting tyres over about 195 section width on something like Omega
I'm pretty sure the R&D guys at Vx wouldn't have wasted millions in deciding that a 225 section was required if that is the case.

if you are not entering a curve with 100 mph, 225 wont be necessary ;D  :y
Any chain is only as strong as it's weakest link  ;)

If the engine is capable of pushing the car to 130mph, then I (not unsurprisingly) expect every other component to be capable of coping with it as well.

that's kinda the point I was making - the marketing people will decide the tyre size and then the engineers will de-bug the system to make sure there's no real problems. Especially the case for an evolutionary design, rather than a revolutionary design.

I've been there a number of times

Ahh! A topic broached many times on here. Dare I suggest that it's endemic with the car design. I love my car to bits, but ever so occasionally when driving on the back roads around here it seems to want to take over, with a mind of it's own, and steer where "it" wants to go!  ;D  ;D
