2.5TD Mig
« on: 23 June 2010, 22:20:47 »

Is this engine any good? and if so, for how many miles, if serviced properly.....?

Seen a 2.5TD CDX advertised locally, no mileage and pics not very clear, just wondered if it might be worth a look, tis on a V plate........ :)

If I got another 2.5TD - and I am tempted - it would have to be a manual this time.  Trouble is, not many manual Elite saloons in 2.5TD version...

I've never regretted buying my TD estate, never given me any real trouble. Apart from new glow plugs and  thermostat, just regular service parts :y

Must keep the oil changed regularly, and keep injectors clean also. Essential also to make sure the cooling system work well also, can be a problem with silting of the rad.
As with any motor look after it and the TD should be good for easily 250k +
I may not be able to acheive that sort of mileage, it's coming up to 120k and running sweet at the moment :y

Had a TD for 3 years and reckon it stands me at about £1000 total running costs - tyres, MOT's, spares... everything.

Great car and is now on 202k, 50k of which are mine.

Buy it  :D

I'm now on 190k. 74k my use ,  pela pump to change oil every 5k, few city miles mostly suburban, did have to buy a rad, the only reason to change the car is I'm tired of looking at it ,or poor consumption 34ish don't believe claims of 40+.
But what to replace it with? Bimmer, Audi? Poverty spec is 3x times price and problems are a financial nightmare!!!!!

I think you would probably struggle to beat 34 with an Auto, my average with a chipped manual is about 36 but if I do a good run then 41/42 is the norm.

To be fair, 34 isn't bad for a 1700kg car.

With a TD auto, urban driving really does kill mpg.  Fine on a good constant 80mph cruise though.
