Rear Doughnut Bushes
« on: 21 September 2010, 19:37:28 »

A quick public thanks to Chris Gixer for changing the doughnut bushes for me today ..  I was supposed to "help" but he did everything ... excellent work.

I didn't realise the difference would be so marked, if your car is around 100,000 and they've not been changed.. might well be worth a thought.

Chris is now, I think, the "OOF Expert" on these .. he did 4 sets at Newent I believe, and done a few others since, although I understand "Gaffers" were not changed as planned .....  :D :D :D :D

He now has the "system" down to a pretty fine art.

Seriously, many, many, thanks Chris ...  :y :y :y :y

I saw him (well his legs anyway ;D ) on the Saturday at Newent when fighting with the non-lowering jack. Mine will need doing (if I don't break it) so will be following the guide and them PMing Chris when I mess it up ;D

...yeeeeahs about the guide, it needs an update, it's too over complicated, written on the current thinking at the time it's now out of date IMO.basically the whole bit about dropping the subframe arm to fit the top rubber washer is wrong, well not wrong, unnecessary. It causes hours of aggro which is easily avoided by wiggling the bush centre spacer ,once fitted, with the 19mill bolt to centre it in the top rubber washer.

Basicly, Jack car on stand, Jack subframe arm very firmly, remove bolts plate and bush(with a baring puller on the centre bolt) then fit the new bush directly, do not lower the subframe arm or alignment with the chassis bolt holes will be lost, instead wiggle the bush centre spacer to centre it in the top rubber washer, then bolt it back up again, job done.

Sorry I missed you at Newent Lee, would have been nice to meet you...that rather Jack was lethal. My Jack soooo much better than Daz's, drops niiiice and sloooow.  ;)

Explane?  :-/

It just bent the metal, was not shifting

And not easy to get your average puller fingers under the metal flange

Alloy spacer in the bush on Entwoods had been eaten away quite badly.  :o

Seen worse otherwise though, but still fubar.

Maybe needs to be a cheap nasty puller from halfords?

Some proper pullers at work also look like the fingers/claws would be too big for this job.

This "LOOKS" like the one I have, going by the rough size, and the fact it's packaged in a tray. Not certain though.

My one worked every time on omega bushes. Even Carlton ones never slipped or bent, it lifted the car up in the air instead.....honest. :-/

I think the fact it's smaller means it pulls to the centre more, rather than directly down... Maybe?

You saw it work on Jimbobs iirc?

I ground the fingers down to fit.
